The Australian band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard is back with their 18th album Butterfly 3000. This happy sounding album was recorded during the global Covid pandemic and was hard for Stu and the others to make. But their focus on making Butterfly 3000 a happy album has succeeded. Sagid Carter sat down with lead singer Stu Mackenzie to talk about the whole process and creating a happy escape in difficult times.

- Interviewer: 3 records in almost one year... KG, LW and now Butterfly 3000. What is going on?! - Stu: Uhm, yeah I mean like, I don't know, we just, uhm... we just like to make music.

If the music business was how it was 30-40 years ago, this band would be on a major label and pushed to front like U2 or Queen or Pink Floyd.

OKAY. I appreciate this album and this band beyond words. The sheer amount of thought and life they cook into each of their songs is mind boggling. The fact no interviewer has asked exactly what their muse is or how they manage to conjure up their lyrics absolutely blows my mind. The lyrics they bring to life are fucking astounding and I have always wondered what it is that drives this aspect of their music because it paints a whole new layer to their songs beyond the insanity of 7/4 timing and releasing 5 albums in a year. Every album of theirs I hear feels like being hit by a train in the best way. Look forward to seeing the gizzies on tour in the states in 2022. Keep fucking rocking you insane bastards ily <3

My favorite thing about this band is that they're not afraid to take bold risks and experiment with new sounds. They wouldn't have released Flying Microtonal Banana or Nonagon Infinity otherwise.

Wow. I've never seen this channel - No idea who this person is interviewing Stu, but goddamn she did a great job! She seems so engaged and passionate. I would watch any and every interview with this person.

they've matured like so much, was listening to I'm In Your Mind Fuzz the other day, and i absolutely loved that album back in like 2015, it had such the sound of what rock music truly is, there was a youthful essence and they've grown up a lot.

Sagid Carter is an amazing interviewer! Great questions, good listening skills and it felt more like a conversation than a "traditional" interview! Really liked the vibe, keep it up :)
