I lived in Taiwan for 2 years, and I spent about 1/3 of that time in Hualien. This video brings back memories. Taiwan is one of my favorite places in the world

I went there 3-time last year, traveled from Europe just for it and it's more than worth it!!! one thing you forgot to mention (or I missed it), Taiwanese are absolutely fabulous people, very kind, welcoming, gentle, polite and very helpful. Hualien is with no doubt my favourite spot in Taiwan and as you described, it has EVERYTHING you need to spend a fabulous time!

Of all the places I lived in Taiwan, Hualien was my favorite. Tons of butterflies in the hills. I saw 20+ species in just five minutes.
Living in Tokyo, now. I miss Taiwan.

You remind me of fond memories I had having lived in Hualien for 2 years. Reminiscing the quiet nights in the hills overlooking the city sipping hot oolong tea with fresh water taken from a creek running nearby. Great people, lovely place and abundance of seafoods. I miss the place.

I loved every where I visited in Taiwan but I do agree Hualien is special and beautiful! I took the train from Juifen and had three nights there ! I wondered around the streets of the city got lost and visited the back streets and I got to see how people live! The musical garbage trucks where people come out of their houses to throw the bags of garbage straight in to the trucks, the little shops and food places we ate at! We even came across a funeral being held in the street !

I have been thinking about visiting Taiwan for some time. You have sold me on the place. I will certainly want to go to the East Coast & enjoy Hualien. It looks beautiful & relaxed.
So far what I like about Taiwan is that it's safe & clean. Also the transportation system sounds amazing. In many ways it reminds me of Japan, in that everything is so orderly and the people considerate.

I visited 34 year's ago from the the north to the south by train that was a great experience to meet locals. I was with a train a step mountain traveling I feel like I am like at home (like Switzerland) I love it and I never would miss it too traveling to such beautiful country Taiwan ๐น๐ผ please take care of your country to be independent ๐ฝand strong, good luck โ๏ธ
