I like that the ATH-M40x swivels and I love the fact that you can detach the cable and that it includes the coiled one. I have a set of SteelSeries that swivel that way and believe it or not, it makes it easier to put on or take off even with one hand. Also makes it easier to hang flush to my wall. Of course my SteelSeries are much more light and comfortable, but I use those for everyday use on my laptop. They also have the removeable cable and this is awesome because you can use any cable you want (any type, any length). I currently am using a coiled "griffin" cable I had around and it has worked awesome cause i don't have cables on the floor or on my lap. I own a pair ATH-M20x ( I use these for recording and editing my voice overs) and although the long (attached) cable may come in handy at some point, I usually work at my desk recording voice overs and the cable just dangles on the floor or I have to wind it up and hang it from a pushpin on the wall. I have at times (and by that I mean all the time) run over the cable with my chair and I have to say that it has held up fine over the years. The other thing I don't like about the cable, however, is that it has become hard and brittle near the headphones gradually getting worse over time (about 2 feet now). This makes storing them harder and it's just annoying. Also the cushions are starting to crack, but that I did expect of course. They sound great though. I will attempt to replace the cable at some point and of course the cushions should be relatively easy to replace if need be. I have a couple of older pairs of AT headphones from the early 2000s. They were about $70 ea and also sound amazing, but the cables started to fail. I need to replace those cables or connectors eventually. I've been looking to replace my ATH-M20x for a couple of years now and I am leaning towards the ATH-M40x just because of the swivel action, and the detachable cable option and the fact that it comes with 2 and one is coiled, perfect for using at my desk. PS Also the ATH-M20x are starting to crack (the plastic) where the metal headband meets the plastic on headphones.

For anyone who owns a digital keyboard (I have an ES920), I tried the OneOdio A71, ATH-M20x and M40x). I wanted to spend the minimum for headphones and the winner is the M40x. They provided the most natural sound, similar the onboard speakers. The other 2 sets had decent mids and highs but the low keys sounded too artificial and a little punchy. Thanks for the review and good luck to everyone
