Fun fact: When Hayao Miyazaki was starting his own animation studio, he wasn't sure where he would get the staff necessary to run it. He was still very early in development, and he saw this movie, loved it, and discovered that it was going to be Rankin Bass's last movie because ITN was going bankrupt. Rankin Bass's animation offices were about to be out of a job so Miyazaki commissioned the entire staff to make Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind, and that became the first Studio Ghibli film; Nausicaa was in theaters before Miyazaki had incorporated, or even named the studio. The Last Unicorn is the mother of Studio Ghibli.

"Molly: No, it can't be. Can it be? Where have you been? Where have you been? Damn you! Where have you been?
Schmendrick: Don't you talk to her that way!
Unicorn: I'm here now.
Molly: And where were you twenty years ago? Ten years ago? Where were you when I was new? When I was one of those innocent young maidens you always come to? How dare you! How dare you come to me now, when I am this!
[Weeps]
Schmendrick: Can you really see her? Do you know what she is?
Molly: If you had been waiting to see a unicorn, as long as I have...
Schmendrick: She's the last unicorn in the world.
Molly: It would be the last unicorn that came to Molly Grue. It's all right, I forgive you."
That scene always gives me chills. I feel like Molly, waiting to see a unicorn my whole life. Maybe one day I will see one.

"It cannot be! Why would I be the last? What do Men know. Because they have seen no unicorns for a while does not mean that we have all vanished. We do not vanish. There has never been a time without unicorns; we live forever! We are as old as the sky, old as the moon! We can be hunted or trapped; we can even be killed, if we leave our forests. But we do not vanish. Am I truly the last?"
had to type that out

I remember watching this when I was a young 5 year old innocent little boy, I would watch it all the time even though I barley understood it, it was a time when where I would have very little knowledge of the outside world beyond my warm little home, where my mother would make me turkey soup whenever I was sick, where when I would go on the Internet I wouldn't search for anything else then Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network games. Now I'm 18 and I know of the state the world is in, now I'm 18 and I search for more then games, now I'm 18 and my mother doesn't make turkey soup for me anymore. But I will still always cherish these little pieces of the past and forget the work and all the hate. 😌

A little fact for the people that enjoyed this movie- the tapestry in the opening song is an actual, antique tapestry.
