Sirlin on Design: The Talos Principle 2

We discuss the sequel to the amazing puzzle game The Talos Principle. Unfortunately, it contains such frustrating design elements that it deeply disappointed me. That said, the actual puzzles are mostly excellent, and there's something so interesting about the theme that I will think about it for years. (Don't miss the end of the video where we discuss that theme.)

"It's really shackled to that" Oh I couldn't help but smile at that one.

WOW, it sounds like you were quite hyped for a sequel to The Talos Principle - too hyped, in fact :'D I feel like TTP2 didn't particularly justify being one big whole game and not just a collection of activities - even if the activities are great and well executed.

I wish there was a way to play just the puzzles. Nothing pushes me away from games harder than a lot of story content that I'm not on board with. A princess and the pea problem maybe but whatever.

Sounds like a classic case of someone having an incredible vision and creative spark for the first one, then felt compelled to follow it up without the same vigor or new ideas. I think from a commercial perspective, it makes sense to go for it anyway, but from an artist perspective, it's a waste of time and leaves a sour taste in lots of mouths.

Very interesting conversation but I think you're overly critical. I was blown away with this game and I thought it was brilliant. But maybe I'm not that smart. O, and I loved the tetris pieces.🙂
