Emotional Steve Aoki: Life is short, love what you do

DJ and musician Steve Aoki candidly reflects on the sacrifices necessary to stay at the top of his industry. Aoki - who has performed at least 250 shows per year for 15 years - says his current schedule doesn’t allow for a family or children, but he wants to have kids eventually. He refers to his experiences working a large crowd as “the ultimate high” and gets introspective recalling emotions he felt earlier this year when performing back in his hometown of Newport Beach, California. Aoki remembers his best friend, who passed away in 2020 and encourages viewers to embrace every moment spent with those who matter.

Aoki goes into more detail within his 2019 memoir “Blue: The Color of Noise,” which is available on Amazon - tinyurl.com/yktbww9v.

The older you get, the faster it goes. That's actually scary. Life on earth is short indeed. Great interview.

Steve Aoki doesn't seem happy! And most aren't - proof that money and fame don't bring you happiness that it's truly from within! He put it all out there. Brave of him!

I've never seen Aoki this vulnerable. His energy is always at maximum. I remember he caked me at a festival and without doubt it was one of the greatest day's of my life.

Damn this really hit home. I’ve always gotten the things I wanted but it never made me happy long term. Now I work hard, focus on experiences with people and try not to worry about the stuff someone else has that I don’t. Have ZERO regrets. The phrase I live by now is “short term satisfaction leads to long term struggle, while short term struggle will lead to long term satisfaction.”

Being in my 50's now I totally get what he feels. Life is very short and it is so hard losing anyone you care for and love. I cherish the days I have and try to make the best out of them when time permits. I may be older, but if I'm physically and mentally able to do what I want with who I want, I/we do, and so should everyone else viewing this clip and reading this post.

Life is short , appreciate every day you have . I might not be around my parents but I call them everyday because I know one day they’re gonna be gone . Made me appreciate him more and everything life has to offer enjoy it .

This reminds me kinda of Schoolboy Q loosing Mac Miller and many other artists. Looks like a hell of a life for us people who aren't famous in general, but we should think about how much people do sacrifice for this kind of life...missing their families, etc. Success, for me, is character. Success is being the best person you can to yourself, others around you and the environment in general. People who think success is measured by a number still need to work on their characters.
