I am listening this album from the mountain town in Japan. Michigan, I was in there 3years ago for work. Cold winter, dark sky, but warming people and great nature. I decided to move to the mountain city from Tokyo in the COVID-19. I and my family were very satisfied to live in nature. This album connect Michigan and the mountain city in Japan.

Well, I'm listening to Sufjan Stevens in the morning on a Friday, which means I'm depressed as shit.

I first listened to this album back in 2007, the year I dropped out of high school. After dropping out of school I used to go for long walks in the wilderness near where a friend of mine lived, communing with the landscape, the sky, the trees, and with my emotions. Sufjan's music was mystical for me, providing enchanting music for my broken heart, showing me something transcendent. All in all, it was a salve for my broken heart, a way out of my horror.

Used this to meditate in the hallway at school today. Great for dealing with stress. He just takes you away to another place...or i guess michigan.

Man, i'll tell you what...this would be the perfect album to listen to while crossing the Mackinaw bridge during a crisp clear fall day.

I was so excited when I found this album because it brings me back to my childhood of growing up in Michigan :)

Very happy Romulus was mentioned here. It's not a big metro like Detroit, but it was a place of decades of memories -- both the generation of my big brother and parents can tell anyone that. It is my hometown. Thank you, Sufjan.

I'm from Holland, Michigan (track number 7). It's a wonderful place to grow up and I think it's so cool that Sufjan wrote a song about it. This song always reminds me of climbing the dunes with my friends in the summer, watching the beautifully colored sunset on the lake, and watching meteor showers in the star-filled sky.

There are truly no words to describe how beautiful this musicians song writing is. How can one state the emotion connection to what these lyrics imprint their stamp on the soul? So long as their is someone out there making songs such as these, life is good.

Born and raised in GR by a family of yoopers. Autumn drives across Mackinac to go to the Soo and Tahquamenon.. Discovered sufjan when I moved to Chicago for my (now ex) wife. She was an Illinois girl. Sufjan became our shared Thing. he really spoke to my depression, and all the beauty of growing up in MI and living in IL. Relistening now almost 5 years since the divorce. I moved back to MI for a bit but I live in the PNW and ATX now. So much feeling in this album...

This album went from very average to an absolute favourite in a matter of weeks. What a grower, and what a find.

This and Illinois really sum up the Great Lakes area pretty well. As much as I've thought about leaving, this part of the country will always be home to me. Prices are cheap, in general people are nice, and the long winters force you to appreciate the summers. I hope Sufjan continues the 50 States project some day, and I really hope he does one for Ohio.

I like that the fish and Lake Michigan paintings are similar in shape.

My family has cabins up in Alanson, Michigan on Pickerel Lake. It’s a small town that not too many people know about so I always felt a special connection to this album and Sufjan. It’s the most wonderful place in the where I have made cherished memories. This album is so near and dear to my heart. God, I love Michigan (the state and album).

I grew up in up north Michigan, and with no hesitation, this record hit me where i live. From a thriving enterprise, to one of the greatest failures ever, Michigan is still home. It is my home. A place for everyone... Michigan, were the water is still pure.
