In this video, we consider how perhaps one of the best ways to always be right is to realize you are probably wrong; and perhaps the best way to win most arguments is to not get in them.

To truly watch these videos takes real courage because it often destroys my perceptions/illusions of reality

How to always win an argument? Know which arguments are worth having

Humanity as a whole need to come to the realization that being wrong is not weakness, like in how failing isn't weakness, but a learning process in succeeding. I believe the most major hindrance to this is the ego. It stands like a bodyguard of sorts, limiting us from much greater potential than people realize. It isn't worth defending a facade of who you think, or who you want to be, if it limits so much potential in reasoning.

This is so good. Whoever writes these scripts has such a great understanding of not only philosophy and history but language as well. I wish I could speak this eloquently.

The mistake so many of us also make is when someone points out a fault in our logic or tries to explain why we're wrong ( even if done so in a civilized and non-condescending manner ) we often get mad because we don't want to be wrong and we double down on our wrong opinion and look for others to agree with us as confirmation that we are right. It's not easy but if I'm wrong and someone can be civilized about why I am wrong about whatever, I do my best to try and see things from their point of view because all I know is there is a LOT I don't know and a LOT None of us know or can know.

This is so true! It’s the reason that when people don’t agree with others they’ll say the other person is “brainwashed” by their parents or the info they’ve been provided with by WHAT or WHOEVER SOURCE. Whenever I hear someone say that I’m like, “um... yeah, ok fair but what about you?”

The interesting thing about truth is that you are more likely to be right by admitting you are more likely wrong than by declaring that you are more likely right. The psychological trick, then, is to understand that you are a fallible creature with a fallible brain perceiving an infinite reality using finite faculties. By practicing detachment from being either right or wrong, you will sharpen your curiosity. When you let curiosity flow despite what you think you know, you allow truth to emerge despite cultural conditioning. When it comes down to it, nobody is off the hook for being wrong. The best you can do is get better at recognizing the hook for what it is so that you are less likely to get dragged away by it. You do this by developing and practicing disciplined strategies for cutting the line and negotiating the hook before the Fisherman of Closemindedness can reel you into his Boat of Dogmatism.

“An intellectual is someone whose mind watches itself.” -Albert Camus I think we are all very unaware of our behavior. We think we should have whatever we want, because we think we know what is best for ourselves. I'd bet most don't have clue, we are all very unaware of our behavior. I found out I had cancer years back and I had a realization of all the daily habits and tasks I would do: video games, watching movies or shows on netflix, youtube, social media, etc. almost out of necessity because it's the norm, its convenient and easy. You really have to unbiasedly watch yourself to see how your own thoughts, words, and actions disserve you.

I've been very aware of this for a little bit now and is the primary "reason" I dont like to interact with people that much anymore. I try to show that all my opinions are just that, just like anyone else but get the arrogant response in a lot of cases. especially in today's society where any individual think their thinking is typical, and we assume that "experts" are idols who cannot be wrong, when indeed they have been wrong many many many times before. by accident, or on purpose.

A long time ago i realized nearly ALL what i was told was WRONG. So when i was told something new i first considered the opposite. I found it was usually correct.

A big problem is our addiction to comfort. The main issue is not though that it's uncomfortable to question yourself but that many people feel uncomfortable feeling uncomfortable. The more comfortable you feel while being in discomfort the easier it is to do uncomfortable things and come out better on the other end.

"(...) we often wield reason not as a method of moving toward truth and out of the default beliefs disposed onto us, but rather a method of defending and proving these beliefs. We attempt to prove that what we have come to find ourselves believing was arrived at fairly, intellectually and rationally." The accurate quote to remind myself of my confirmation bias , thanks!

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently… I’ve noticed how I can be so sure that im right in something but be completely wrong. I have pretty much created a habit of skepticism on every problem I come across in life as I’m sure that I will be missing/overlooking some factors to produce a solid solution So I essentially just think about anything 2-3 times more before feeling valid enough to move on

I'm 16 and watching these videos opens up my mind to different perspectives. I agree with you, I might probably be wrong in a lot of things, We are wrong, If we're just humble enough to correction and detach from our pride and ego, only then we might learn, But I know I know nothing

I’ve always watched videos like this. Before the internet I read books and magazine articles regarding epistemology. How we learn and why we believe what we believe has led to an inward humility regarding my own lack of knowledge and understanding. The problem seems to be, though, that when I go out into the world everyone else seems to know exactly what’s what. Honestly, I don’t think they do know. People suck. Lol

This video is great. Reminds me of when I discovered street epistemology. I didn't realize it would lead to me questioning my own beliefs
