Staying up 'til midnight then experiencing this was maybe not the best idea for my emotional wellbeing, but here we (finally) are. I sat and listened to this all the way through, immediately passed out and managed to miss the second album drop (this woman is depriving me of sleep) so I will be back with Part Two very soon 🖤

“Daddy” is a metaphor for the media and fans who weigh in on her personal life. Go off, Taylor! I love that Taylor came for them - it’s such a transformation for the good girl who has been so careful not to upset her fans for years.

Clara Bow was the original IT girl. She was a silent screen star and a flapper (back then, people saw that as one step up from a s*x worker). She flirted with a lot of men. Famously she flirted with an entire football team (though newspapers would say she had a full o*gy with them, even though she didn't). But what she is really famous for was that she was accused of having s*x with a dog. The trial was long and while it was reported false, the damage it did was permanent. She was admitted into a psych ward in the late 40s after her mental health crumbled and she attempted s***ide. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia there. She left over a decade later. Her husband died soon after, and she died about 2/3 years after him. Overall an incredibly interesting and sad life

"The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived'" and "But Daddy I Love Him" are my favorite tracks. Like those two songs are genuinely some of the best songs of her career in my opinion.

This is long but SO worth it. I absolutely need someone to hear this and join me in the chaos. I think Taylor and Matty Healy were on again / off again so many times without us knowing, and listening to these lyrics, I think it proves it. In ‘My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys,’ she says we could’ve played for keeps THIS TIME hinting that there were previous times it just didn’t work, but this time she really wanted it. She says “put me back on MY shelf,” as in a place where he continuously pulls her down from, plays with her, and then puts her away again, perfectly describing the on again/ off again relationship. In Fresh out the Slammer she says “I’m fresh out the Slammer, I know who my first call will be to,” comparing her relationship with Joe to prison, but now that it’s over, she can go “running back home,” to Matty. She says “He was with her in dreams,” saying Joe was thinking about another woman. Then i compare that to ‘Guilty as Sin?’ where she says “Without ever touching his skin, how can I be guilty as sin?” basically asking “If all I ever did was think about Matty, is that really cheating and does that actually make me guilty if I never touched him when I was with Joe.” In The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived’ she says “it wasn’t sexy once it wasn’t forbidden,” meaning if they had snuck around a few times in between their other relationships, but this time it was made public and then he no longer wanted it once it wasn’t forbidden. In ‘Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus’ she says “you needed me, but you needed drugs more.” This ties in to the song ‘Peter’ and I’ll explain why. Taylor and Matty met in 2014, ten years ago, when he was 25. They met back then and it’s rumored he said he would “clean up his act and then come find her to see where it goes.” So she says he needed her, but he never could clean up his act like he promised, which she also says in ‘Peter’ with lyrics saying “you said you were gonna grow up, you said you were gonna come find me,” and also “you said you’d come and get me, but you were twenty-five, and the shelf life of those fantasies has expired.” the entire song of ‘Guilty as Sin’ seems to be a deep explanation of her disconnect with Joe, and her starting to connect more with Matty again. The song opens with “Drownin’ in the Blue Nile, he sent me Downtown Lights.” Downtown Lights is a song by The Blue Nile which was then sampled in a song by the 1975. She says “My boredom is bone deep, this cage was once just fine,” she’s saying that she was bored in her relationship, stuck in a cage that she used to be fine with, but no longer is. And then Matty sends her this song she hasn’t heard in a while, and she suddenly starts thinking of him while still with joe, which is where the question “without ever touching his skin, how can i be guilty as sin,” comes from!! The lyrics “someone told me there’s no such thing as bad thoughts, only your actions talk.” She’s saying she can’t be guilty for just thinking about someone else, without acting taking action on them. Then In the song ‘loml’ she opens it by saying “Who’s gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames, if we know the steps anyway,” she seems to be saying that people can try to stop them from going back to each other time and time again, but the steps back to him are already memorized.

One more thing as I am watching this video I remembered some swiftie said that sometimes when u come out of a such long relationship and enter into another one but your still very much hurt from the first one and then again the new one ends too your brain kinda mixes those feelings and experiences of those two relationship and that's what this whole album really looks like as you said u can make out multiple conclusions of who she is talking about and I guess it's an art in itself

I love how you dissect the songs not from the perspective of who she wrote about but rather the song as a whole 😄🥰❤
