I like how the first mission gives an explanation of unit counters, and does it within the story of the battle.

The opening cinematic feels like a History Channel documentary. The voiceover, the cinematography, the editing, it all seems like something I would have seen on TV.

The history feel is exactly what I loved about AoE 1 & 2 when I was a kid playing campaign. I feel like they've taken that and elevated it to speak to those same kids who are now adults and still love history.

The "Building a Castle" video shows Guedelon, a French castle being built using epoch accurate methods. Yes it's crazy and awesome.

I really like the filmed footage introduction direction they went in... Something a little different and I don't think it breaks the immersion, well not for me at least. Imagine being taught history at school like this - playable lessons!

It's nice how the map has the correct landmass of the Netherlands at the time.

I still can't help but remember back to AoE2 Hastings with the smooth voice actor dictating events on a scroll. The documentary style is cool too, though I hope someone is able to mod a medieval-looking menu for the game.

6:58 "The battle's at 9:00 not 9:03, gentlemen." Perhaps my favorite SOTL quote

I've never played a RTS before, until this and I'm really loving this game. I'm terrible at it but it's really fun.

Ahhh yes, York, my city. Glad to see it featured again, first was in AoE II with one of the smaller campaigns, now here. Good to see us getting some love once again

I'm kinda disappointed that we're not getting a narrative per se, I loved the style from AOE2, but that said, the idea of an interactive documentary is pretty neato

This looks great! Although one of the things I really loved from aoe2 was the voice acting for individual historical characters, like Joan of arc or Saladin. It really made it feel like you were playing an rpg, where you roll played historical characters. I hope they won't only be using the narrator, and instead will still have individual characters..

"less is more" is what comes to mind watching these cutscenes

Ngl, watching the opening cutscene, I forgot this was Age of Empires. I kinda miss the person from the place recapping the story though. Or good ol' William Wallace teaching me how to March, and Fight!

The new direction is fun. AoE2's campaign direction was great, but we already have 32 or so campaigns in that style; it's nice to see something new and fresh.
