Here in the US I recall my college boyfriend and his buddies, who worked at a fire station, saying awful things about the first woman on their "team". They made her life a living hell, and she stood up to them. They wouldn't talk to her, eat with her, watch TV with her, and they would do rotten things like leave her to handle the big hose alone, while they never did that to one another. They felt it was an assault on their masculinity that a woman could do their "manly" job, and they tried to make it so that she couldn't.

My daughter has worked for the fire service in Shropshire, dedicated, hard working and genuinely wanting to do her very best, above and beyond, only to be blasted by and targeted for, whatever reason, we cannot see why. Maybe the saying "stones get thrown at the ripest fruit" is true. There are some very evil and misogynistic little men out there, even in the fire service, sadly, feel very threatened by strong and honourable women

This is extremely sad to see. Jan was my boss for a while in Avon. She was well liked by firefighters and she stuck up for us. Texts by senior managers should not be seen as a reflection of the fire service as a whole. I am a male firefighter and have never heard anyone say a bad word about Jan.

These are death threats. My heart goes to that poor woman who has done nothing but take her career seriously. Those misogynistic little men need jail time.
