The chief fire officer (CFO) and assistant chief fire officer (ACFO) of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service both sent messages suggesting they wanted to kill or harm female colleagues.

In the WhatsApp messages - which have been leaked to ITV News - the senior officers also use the words "lazy cow", "bint" and "useless" to refer to women in the service.

Several of the messages target Area Manager Jan Morris, who resigned from the service this year after reading what had been said about her.

These are death threats. My heart goes to that poor woman who has done nothing but take her career seriously. Those misogynistic little men need jail time.

Here in the US I recall my college boyfriend and his buddies, who worked at a fire station, saying awful things about the first woman on their "team". They made her life a living hell, and she stood up to them. They wouldn't talk to her, eat with her, watch TV with her, and they would do rotten things like leave her to handle the big hose alone, while they never did that to one another. They felt it was an assault on their masculinity that a woman could do their "manly" job, and they tried to make it so that she couldn't.

My daughter has worked for the fire service in Shropshire, dedicated, hard working and genuinely wanting to do her very best, above and beyond, only to be blasted by and targeted for, whatever reason, we cannot see why. Maybe the saying "stones get thrown at the ripest fruit" is true. There are some very evil and misogynistic little men out there, even in the fire service, sadly, feel very threatened by strong and honourable women

This is extremely sad to see. Jan was my boss for a while in Avon. She was well liked by firefighters and she stuck up for us. Texts by senior managers should not be seen as a reflection of the fire service as a whole. I am a male firefighter and have never heard anyone say a bad word about Jan.

She wasn’t looking to overthrow them. She asked to be equal and they wanted to kill her? Is this how they decide who they save when responding to citizens in need of rescue? Watching from Texas in shock. Firefighters were looked at as the real hero how disgraceful.

Journalist shows her previously unseen message …camera zooms in for her reaction….. friggen disgusting behaviour by all involved. Hope they are happy they got the reaction they wanted. The men sending the messages should be immediately stood down.

They really don’t want women in this profession. The fact that they would text on this and continue to target women in the department needs to be addressed. Both men should be fired and this woman deserves compensation.

Is anyone actually shocked? We see this type of talk online everywhere. I’ve ignored men like this all my life and have been lucky to not work with them. Such poor boundaries and nasty language exposes the reality. Get them out

It's weird to think that some members of a profession that is made up of mostly men, who by the way most of the public looks at as brave and courageous, can feel so fragile, shaken and threatened as to turn to making such horrible, threatening, harmful statements.

Why do these men still have their jobs? Aren't these public service positions? Shouldn't they be fired?
