The Canal in the Sky | Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

The incredible Pontcysyllte Aqueduct on the Llangollen canal near to Cefn Mawr and Trefor/Trevor, this amazing and breathtaking aqueduct was constructed by Thomas Telford and William Jessop for the then Ellesmere canal. It carries the canal over the River Dee as it rips its way through the beautiful valley in North Wales.

All drone footage shot with a DJI mini 3 Pro.

All camera footage shot with an Insta360 One Inch with Rode Go mic and Lavalier.

Look for the book, " "pontcysyllte aquaduct and canal: world heritage site" by Peter wakelin. It's full of useful information. I lived on the cut ar there for a year or so.

Been over the aqueduct before on a hire boat we had for 3 weeks, i would highly recommend it if anyone ever gets the chance by boat. its a bizarre but amazing experience. In the wind it gets a bit scary though as the boat gets pushed in to the thin looking sidewall.

Great video which conveys something of the epic proportions of this aqueduct - breathtaking in its conception and execution. Impossible to imagine the construction of this structure, 200 years ago. It must have stretched the limits of what was possible at this time. My vertigo would stop me crossing either on foot or in a barge, especially on a windy day. Great to see the proposals for extending the arm into a basin - presumably doubling as a marina, which will be good news for boaters on this magnificent canal.

Thank you for the walking tour today. With my illness, will never get back to the United Kingdom. Upon the end of the video, it always leaves a smile on my face. Thank you again, and Cheers to you, Steve! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ™‚πŸ‘πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Thanks for this one especially my young stillson-wielder! Sadly I never got to see this in person in my travelling days. Much to the chagrin of both my own crowd and that of my old Welsh expat mate. A bit late for him but at least we can enjoy it from the comfort of our rockers. Another "White Elephant" project that is still plopping out Gold Patties after all these years. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Š

We crossed this and moored up and went to the shop on an estate near by .Did not go to the end as the guide book told us it was single working . A family stopped in the middle and threw flowers into the river below, their daughter has taken her life as she had jumped off .Not always a happy place .

Local to Me, hope you enjoyed your visit to My home Wrexham and the ex industrial villages to the south. When I was born I was told that the first walk that My dad did with me in a pram was over the Aqueduct and along the canal, which was within walking distance from My parents house at the time. Moss valley still exists (but not in its original form) and there are random places of dry cut marooned around Wrexham (many have been lost for ever as time moves on) which were cut before the money ran out. I may be wrong but was this canal originally planned to meet the Dee somewhere down stream of Holt and then the navigable bit down stream to Chester?
