I saw in an interview, that Lenny, the director, told Brie in this particular scene to try and explain her story to him carefully, and calmly but not to scare him. He privately told Jacob to interrupt Brie and to question what she says. She didn't know he would do that which is why she becomes frustrated! It's like playing tug of war.

thereās something in the book that wasnāt explained in the movie, and i think it should have:
as Old Nick had lost his job about six months ago, he was running out of money. Joy then has to explain to Jack, once he understands that thereās a world outside Room, that once Old Nick canāt afford basic things, his house will be taken by the bank. Old Nick wouldnāt let the bank find Joy and Jack because heād be in bigger trouble, so Joy is pretty sure heāll kill them before that. Thatās why Joy was in such a hurry to get out. She could have explained when he was six, she might have considered heād understand better. And Jack is scared, heād rather do this later, but that canāt happen because itās now or never.

When you see this scene you knew that Brie would get an Oscar. I felt so much anger at the kid, anger at the guy who abducted her and so much anger for the world. This story emulated a story that actually happened in California. My dad worked 2 blocks away from a girl who was abducted and held prisoner in a shed for over 10 years. This stuff happens... and there is evil out there. If Brie doesn't get this Oscar there is something wrong.

this scene is just perfect. you can feel Joyās desperation because her only company, the only person who can actually help, canāt understand what sheās saying.
and itās logical that Jack doesnāt understand because heās never been outside, heās never seen the world and heās been told that what he sees on TV isnāt real or itās other planets. and heās just a kid, his imagination can make everything make some sense; like Old Nick being half real or the door leading to outer space. and Joy canāt yet figure out a way to make him realise whatās going on and you can see her trying so hard. itās one of the best scenes in the whole movie.

I watched this last night, and this scene was tough and awesome. I felt for both characters. I'm not mad at Jack, cause this was his "wonderful home" , and his mom was breaking his heart( his point of view) by telling him it's some bad place they're not supposed to really be in. Tough situation for her as a mother and victim too. Well written and acted by both.

The first half an hour of this movie was absolutely terrifying- 7 years in that space? It seems unbearable, I can't imagine the terror she must have felt when she wasn't sure her Jack would understand, and she might have to be in that room for the rest of her life. Amazing movie, so glad she won the oscar.

Something I realized is that Room also serves as a metaphor for childhood, when Jack was in Room life was so simple and straightforward, for him all he knew was playing and having fun, and when they finally got out and into the real world he finds out thereās so much more complexities in life, some good but also some bad, when you hear Jack say āI wanna go back to Roomā itās basically like him saying āI want my childhood naĆÆvetĆ© backā this whole movie essentially shows what itās like to grow up, youāre able to experience all these new incredible things but at the cost of the simpler life you used to have

This scene made me cry because she made you feel the desperation in trying to get him to understand yet her still trying to stay strong. It must've been frustrating knowing that the only person who can help you has no idea the world exists and how scary it would've been if he never responded to the truth.
