This scene made me cry because she made you feel the desperation in trying to get him to understand yet her still trying to stay strong. It must've been frustrating knowing that the only person who can help you has no idea the world exists and how scary it would've been if he never responded to the truth.

I saw in an interview, that Lenny, the director, told Brie in this particular scene to try and explain her story to him carefully, and calmly but not to scare him. He privately told Jacob to interrupt Brie and to question what she says. She didn't know he would do that which is why she becomes frustrated! It's like playing tug of war.

Iā€™m sorry but the ā€œWHERE WAS I!ā€ and the ā€œYou were still up in heaven.ā€ makes me giggle because itā€™s just such a sweet response to his obvious frustration.

This scene is kinda disturbing yet powerful. I can feel her desperation to have the boy know their situation. Makes me wanna watch it. Now I know why Brie Larson is winning. I know she'll win the Oscar!

thereā€™s something in the book that wasnā€™t explained in the movie, and i think it should have: as Old Nick had lost his job about six months ago, he was running out of money. Joy then has to explain to Jack, once he understands that thereā€™s a world outside Room, that once Old Nick canā€™t afford basic things, his house will be taken by the bank. Old Nick wouldnā€™t let the bank find Joy and Jack because heā€™d be in bigger trouble, so Joy is pretty sure heā€™ll kill them before that. Thatā€™s why Joy was in such a hurry to get out. She could have explained when he was six, she might have considered heā€™d understand better. And Jack is scared, heā€™d rather do this later, but that canā€™t happen because itā€™s now or never.

Old Nick is an old slang term for Satan or the Devil.

When you see this scene you knew that Brie would get an Oscar. I felt so much anger at the kid, anger at the guy who abducted her and so much anger for the world. This story emulated a story that actually happened in California. My dad worked 2 blocks away from a girl who was abducted and held prisoner in a shed for over 10 years. This stuff happens... and there is evil out there. If Brie doesn't get this Oscar there is something wrong.

"Old Nick stole me..." Brie Larson's acting Oscar was not wasted, she is absolutely heartbreaking. I think people like Old Nick have no business calling themselves human beings; they're a very unique and particular form of evil, and deserve nothing but the worst punishment.

this scene is just perfect. you can feel Joyā€™s desperation because her only company, the only person who can actually help, canā€™t understand what sheā€™s saying. and itā€™s logical that Jack doesnā€™t understand because heā€™s never been outside, heā€™s never seen the world and heā€™s been told that what he sees on TV isnā€™t real or itā€™s other planets. and heā€™s just a kid, his imagination can make everything make some sense; like Old Nick being half real or the door leading to outer space. and Joy canā€™t yet figure out a way to make him realise whatā€™s going on and you can see her trying so hard. itā€™s one of the best scenes in the whole movie.

It's a bit frustrating watching this. I can imagine losing my temper with him very easily. But, it's a child so his ignorance (I guess you could call it that) is understandable, forgiveable, and realistic. But in a moment like that, I'd be furious.

Goodness, I cannot believe I watched this movie late. This is one of the best and most powerful films I have ever seen - amazing acting and well-shot scenes. Brie Larson absolutely deserves her Oscar, and Jacob Tremblay - talk about such a fantastic young talent!

I watched this last night, and this scene was tough and awesome. I felt for both characters. I'm not mad at Jack, cause this was his "wonderful home" , and his mom was breaking his heart( his point of view) by telling him it's some bad place they're not supposed to really be in. Tough situation for her as a mother and victim too. Well written and acted by both.

The first half an hour of this movie was absolutely terrifying- 7 years in that space? It seems unbearable, I can't imagine the terror she must have felt when she wasn't sure her Jack would understand, and she might have to be in that room for the rest of her life. Amazing movie, so glad she won the oscar.

Something I realized is that Room also serves as a metaphor for childhood, when Jack was in Room life was so simple and straightforward, for him all he knew was playing and having fun, and when they finally got out and into the real world he finds out thereā€™s so much more complexities in life, some good but also some bad, when you hear Jack say ā€œI wanna go back to Roomā€ itā€™s basically like him saying ā€œI want my childhood naĆÆvetĆ© backā€ this whole movie essentially shows what itā€™s like to grow up, youā€™re able to experience all these new incredible things but at the cost of the simpler life you used to have
