I cried like a baby when I heard this song for the first time. I haven’t cried in years, certainly never because of a song I have no real connection to. It speaks to Alt J’s ability to write beautiful music.
The reason I love these guys so much is that they stay true to their authentic selves when they write; it’s not always an instant fix when you hear a new song but when you take the time to really listen, it ends up pulling you along on these just really brilliant, delightful rides. When this song came out it had been 6 months since the death of my little brother. It was a horrible car accident, and I showed up at the scene… The first time I listened to it, I broke down, I listened to it in a loop for hours. I cried and cried, I never listened to it again. Here I am over a year later, and it still so hard to listen to but it’s such a beautiful song.
