To be fair, this show is supposed to be a satire but along the way it lost its satirical edge and just became another teen drama. If you watch this pilot as a satire then itâs actually quite good.

What I find funny is that Finn makes up a lie saying that Shue offered him extra credit to join the Glee Club, which...is a significantly less creepy and illegal way of getting a kid to join a club than blackmailing him with drug possession
And if it's not a lie then that means Will went "okay so on top of not going to jail, you also get extra Spanish credit" and not once did he decide "let me try the other thing first and see if it's enough"

I always thought of Glee as a Parody and commentary. You can't take it seriously. It's like High School Musical meets It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Terrible people in cliched settings. It ultimately fails as parody because it takes itself too seriously (like The Orville) by the end
