Tony, we were in Bar Harbor in 2022 with Royal Caribbean and after the mess in town I said I would never go back. It was October and every shop , road, restaurant anywhere people could go was packed. As is in Nassau to many people at one time makes a beautiful place a nightmare. I know the argument from both sides but the answer is somewhere in between.
Glad to hear your well .

We grew up in Bar Harbor and lived there until we moved to Zephyrhills Florida about 20 years ago. We go back every year to visit family and friends but do not go into town because it is soooo busy 😮.The problem is Bar Harbor is a very small town, and when you get two or three cruise ships in the harbor emptying out, plus all the "land" tourist, it is absolutely crazy !! I think if they would allow just one ship at a time, there would be ample room for all the cruisers to come ashore and visit. You should definitely go visit the area sometime Tony, it is beautiful, especially the park. I would recommend going in the off-season when it's not quite so crazy 😉

You know I love me the cruise industry, but I can't help thinking that when it comes to overtourism, they've kinda brought this upon themselves... and as a result, we're going to see more ports either limiting the number of people who can come or, the other thing we're seeing a lot, increasing the port taxes.

I grew up in New England and the little sea side towns are prescious in their individuality. It's what makes the New England coast quaint and picturesque. Martha''s Vineyard, Nantucket, Hyaniss, all up and down Cape Cod so many places. The small coastal towns are small, the streets are narrow, the buildings close and small. I can absolutely understand why those living there would NOT want to be flooded by thousands of cruisers every day. It would totally ruin the small sea town atmosphere. Plus there's probably no way that any town within walking distance of the ship, could accomodate that many people in restaurants, bathrooms, beaches etc.........For businesses, it's too much of a good thing.
