I am a Marine and always will be. Listening to the Admiral took me back to Parris Island where the training tested me to the limit and they tried punishing me to test my mettle to see if I had it to be a combat trained Marine. I couldn't do things right at first and they made me do it over and over until I succeeded and got it. After 3 months of terrible mental and physical training I graduated as a Marine. It was the greatest and proudest day of my life and I am still a Marine at age 85.

I found this speech a few years ago when I was at my absolute lowest losing to drugs and alcohol. I'm 14 months sober as of writing this and this speech was part of my recovery. The ten rules went on my wall and I started to live by them. I fought for my life back harder than I've ever done anything. If anyone is ever struggling, please don't give up, you can overcome.

My husband was a marine and a Navajo. He was proud of all his family that served. My family also represented the best they could be in the Army,Navy and Marines. My dad joined at 17. He felt ashamed that he was home and his brothers were serving overseas. My Grandfather had signed for him to go. I miss him so much. The National Anthem makes me cry every time I hear it. I am so proud of the strong men in my family, and my friends, who also served this country. I love you daddy.

Powerful speech. "If you want to measure a person, don't measure them by their height or strength. Measure them by the size of their heart".

This is why I can't stop respecting America even when the country has a lot of problems. This core strength of America will never go away, never be altered regardless of whatever the problem they have. Stay strong Americans.

Amazing Speech. I know this is an old clip but in today's turmoil so much hope has been lost. America needs this motivation & hope so desperately. Thank you Admiral.

I did 10 years in the Navy and after being medically discharged, I missed the sense of purpose it gave me and being around people like this. What a treasure of a speech, I bookmarked it to listen to when I get wobbly. Thank you Admiral McRaven.

I showed this to my dad who's ex military, he was stricken with 3 different types of cancer that developed into a terminal illness, he went from a mean 210 pound tank to less then 100 it absolutely kills me to see him like this, it hurts just to say this. i use this speech to empower myself, it was incredible watching my dad fight a little harder to sit up longer, to speak longer, to smile for that much longer ment everything to me and my family - you hit a different note in his heart - thank you - early this morning the king in our family passed on to be with our forefathers, rest in peace father I love you, I hope that you're proud of me šŸ™ ā¤ļø

My Dad was a USMC. As a young girl, I dreaded his military background. He was strict, dictated chores and was impossible to please. Now that I'm older, I appreciate what he was trying to instill in me. The world today is crap and getting worse. But I wake up ready for whatever comes my way. Hoo-rah !!!

16 years in the Navy myself, 2 war zones, been feeling hopeless since getting out yet this video has once again inspired me to be that person I was while wearing the uniform. Don't know about anyone else but I have no problem admitting to the fact I got a little teary eyed listing to this

This speech got me out of the darkness and my lowest points in life. I came across it by complete coincidence when I was terminated from my job. I listened to it every day for 6 continuous months. I started each day by doing my bed. 3 years later I can clearly say I am a changed human Thank you sir for the amazing speech

Its quite interesting how we reject the reality of our situation and expect to be able to observe it, control it and even change it. I used to be financially depressed until I read a book that made me realized that the secret to making a million is making better investments.
