This is great! I just learned this song a few weeks ago as a matter of fact. I play it on the dulcimer, but it sounds great on the whistle! I will try to post a response to this with my version on the hammered dulcimer

I would have messed up about 50 times before being able to record this solo. Love your variations and ornaments. Very inspiring but just shows me I have a long road to playing better... 50 stars!

The way you do it is not important. So long as it achieves the desired effect, and it is comfortable for you and works for you, its perfectly fine. Rules of tin whistle (or any Irish folk instrument, for that matter) playing does not stress on fingerwork, and the little technical bits here and there. What matters is your sound. Ryan is here to teach you the basics, so you can start playing immediately.
