Those flares will totally throw off the heat seeking missiles the Spitfire was famous for......Interesting idea. You'd assume slow moving aggressor would be able to out turn a fighter designed for speed and get a few hits.

I’m going to break from the other comments here & say I was so happy to see one of these hypothetical matchups where the modern jets didn’t just stand off & fire air-to-air missiles.
It would be fun to pit a WWII fighter against a modern jet with both aircraft flown by real people, but with a ground rule – guns only, no missiles.
I realize a modern jet pilot with a strong background in combat air tactics could still shred a warbird by making slashing attacks, but there actually was an instance in Vietnam where two prop-driven Skyraiders brought down a MiG-17 jet when the MiG pilot made a head-on pass at them. So a gunfight might be fun to watch.

FFS, never slow speed dogfight a zero, unless you're in another zero. You know what I mean. Were the flares used to try to make the Spitfire catch fire!!!! Would have been really ironic? (Yes, I know its made of aluminium sheet)
