Honestly we need to honor Gangl. Man lived as a villain on the axis side fighting for the nazis but died a German hero who realized the wrongs of his country. History may remember him as just a German soldier who died during the battle but to me he was a man who redeemed himself.

I learned about this battle through "The Last Battle" by Sabaton and its still one of my favorite songs from them. I still love the lyric "And it's American troops and the German army, joining together at last!" Not only because it's a very badass line but because they make the deliberate distinction to say "German" instead of "Nazi" army. Because at that point, major Gangl and his men were Germans fighting for Germany against the evil Nazi regime.
It also lead me to look up and learn about this battle and honestly it sounds like something straight out of Wolfenstien. I'm still surprised there hasn't been a movie about it yet.
