Fantasia was not made specifically for children. It was Disney's grand experiment to showcase animation as an artform by paring it with classical music. Hence animators were given the freedom to create stories with more adult themes and challenge the perception that animation was merely kid stuff. 😊

Disney needs to have the balls to make this a ride.

This is hands down the most metal animation Disney will ever produce.

Bill Tytla, who animated Chernabog, was more than an animator...he was an artist of the highest degree. This scene has been referred to by many animators as the crowning achievement in character animation to this day, for reasons that should be obvious.

I surprisingly wasn't scared of this when I was young. Why? Well, to comfort me, my parents told me that the big guy was having a barbecue with all his friends.

I was never scared of this scene as a kid. I was absolutely fascinated with all the little characters, and the fire, and the colours. And the peaceful ending wrapped it all up so nicely.

"This is too scary! Children shouldn't watch it!" "Why? The ghosts? Witches? Demons? Hellfire?" "NO! Because the boobies have NIPPLES!"

The seamless transition from 'Night On Bare (Bald) Mountain' to 'Ave Maria' was a piece of sheer genius and has lived with me from my early years, when I first saw Fantasia (60 or so years ago) to this day.

Honestly the scariest part for me has always been when the ghosts were coming out of the ground. They aren’t animated and are completely still, other than them floating away and rippling a bit. Their limbs, their heads, nothing moves. It’s just so creepy.

This scared the life out of me when I was a child watching this on VHS. Now I can't help but be amazed at its beauty. Animation at its finest
