They were always brilliant. From day one. This is the proof. RIP Robin and Maurice (...and Andy).

The song is based on a mining disaster in Aberfan, Wales, in which a huge slag heap fell down on the little village and buried a school. 116 children were killed, and 20 or so adults. The slag heaps were illegal in the first place but when the families sued the coal company, big surprise, the company was acquitted. The book about the tragedy is heartbreaking, as is this song.

I listen to the Bee Gees as much now as I did when I was 12yo--best year of my life; I wrote to RSO Records/Robert Stigwood that year about my deep love of their music, and he sent me dozens of old-fashioned albums, a hand-written note, and 8 complimentary tickets to an upcoming Bee Gees concert in my state in return. Me & my friends had the time of our lives at that concert in '79--and it was so cool to be paged out of class at that age for a call from a "Mr. Stigwood in New York." He actually called my home phone number while I was in school, and my mom gave him the school's phone number. He was/is a class act & a kind gentleman; and my love for the Bee Gees has never waned over the years. I was wactually in the hospital when I saw on the news that Maurice had died, and kept wishing it was all just a bad dream. I miss Maurice & Robin terribly, they surely passed away far too young. I still imagine hearing the 3 of them sing together today, how brilliant that would be! The Bee Gees remain my all-time fave band, they are a legendary group for all-time--and the memories their music evokes are priceless. I love their older music equally as much as the disco era--it is all timeless. God Bless you, Sir Barry & may you rest in peace together Maurice, Robin & Andy--still harmonizing together in the Heavens above and bringing immense joy to our lives for decades to come <3

They had a totally unique sound. I much prefer the older recordings than when they went Disco.

Still awe inspiring after all these years. Hard to beat their amazing harmonies. I will love the Bee Gees forever.

when the drummer just casually looks like time travelled from 1941 to the 1960's

To me, the best sixties groups were: The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The BeeGees, the three Bā€™s. Good voices and good composers. Their music will never be forgotten.

The fact that they put ā€œNew Yorkā€ instead of ā€œaberfanā€ to avoid being rude to the victims just proves how much of generous people they were

This was the song that turned me on to the Bee Gees. I was 14, and have been a fan ever since.

When this song was first played on New York City radio stations they would not reveal the name of the group. Some thought it was the Beatles.

Love Robin's vocals in this track. Really wish they did more songs of this type. It's unique, innovative, and tons of fun to listen to. This song was released over 50 years ago, and yet it could sound like it came from 2021. Amazing.

A song of a mining disaster, thatā€™s playing a lot in my head during covid19. Especially the line ā€œdo you know what itā€™s like on the outsideā€ for those who are sad and lonely all by themselves šŸ˜£

We were taught about this song in high school. Our music teacher explained the story behind it. So good 50 years later to sit and view the Bee Gees singing it.

I remember hearing this song when it first came out. I couldn't get it out of my head. It was so very different from anything I had heard before. Very powerful and haunting. BTW: HBO has available a documentary about the Bee Gees called. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. I highly recommend it.
