The Young Bucks are down BAD. They had to completely change their gimmick—and ring gear—and every step they take, every move they make seems to be in reaction to something CM Punk said or did over a year ago.

AEW Revolution was a great sendoff for Sting. The Young Bucks were fantastic in their roles as heels authority figures, and I think Revolution will do around 200,000 buys on PPV, but those are nostalgia buys and AEW will no longer have the crutch of Sting’s retirement to sell tickets. Not that they did a good job selling tickets during his actual retirement tour. God, how do you fumble the bag with Sting?

Moving forward, AEW will be in no-man’s land and has very shaky ground to stand on, let alone build around. Let’s talk about how The Young Bucks have gone into crazy town with a washed gimmick that will continue to make them look like the Temu.com Titan Towers.

The Young Bucks showed out at AEW Revolution, but the match featured more Easter Eggs designed to…stick it…to CM Punk? CM Punk infamously brawled his way in and out of AEW through the Brawl Out and the Brawl In. His final punches thrown backstage were over Jack Perry’s use of Real Glass, and the skirmish made poor Tony Khan fear for his life. Fast forward to March 2024, Jack Perry is still nowhere to be found on AEW TV. In fact, they’re still playing off this angle with Perry as a vigilante in NJPW where nobody is watching.

AEW continues to beat itself incorporate real glass into its matches, including a death-defying spot where Darby Allin dove through real glass from a 20-foot ladder. Darby’s back was cut to shit and was bleeding worse than Bix’s acne scars. But not only did Darby suffer from this incident. A 75-year-old Ric Flair caught strays and was bloodied. Fans were bloodied. Sting went through some real glass at Age 64. All because AEW just had to prove that they’re the real glass company, and a veteran like CM Punk—who as just looking out for a wrestler’s health—isn’t going to tell them what to do. Yeah, you’re not the boss of AEW anymore Boomer Phil, and they’re trying to prove that by giving each other Hepatitis C.

I don’t think Darby Allin, Ric Flair or even any of the fans of the AEW product care all that much about real glass. Yet they are the collateral damage of the Young Bucks being dangerously petty, with the EVP’s condoning their wrestlers to play with sharp object in order to prove a point. Get it? Sharp? Point?

How is CM Punk winning this divorce after tearing up his triceps? If AEW wants to teach CM Punk a lesson, they shouldn’t be doing it by putting MFers in danger with real glass—if you’ll pardon my Swahili. They need to be telling better stories and focusing on their stars of the future, who can fill the void left by Punk. The day AEW feels it no longer needs to plant CM Punk Easter Eggs all over its product is the day AEW can move on from a nightmare that still haunts them.

The Bucks wearing suits to the ring is like when the Little Rascals used to dress up as grown-ups and pretend to be bosses.

Why are 40 year olds called Young Bucks?

The Bucks were never as popular as they wanted you to believe. They were having matches with no crowd engagement long before the CM Punk drama. They just ride popular wrestler’s coattails. See how irrelevant they become when Omega is gone and see how quickly they sucked up to Okada.

I just dont get it, the evp gimmick theyre doing now, wouldve been perfect to do if CM Punk was still in the company, them doing it now kinda just proves that they were scared of Punk. They chat all their shit when he was suspended and when he was fired. common young bucks L

Seeing AEW incels on Facebook and YouTube comments section calling these two clowns the best tag team ever makes me ill. These clowns aren't even top 20.

Correction: He is not just living in the Bucks' heads rent free. He is living rent free in all of AEW. Their smarks, journos like Meltzer, Khan, their friends in the back, etc. Punk's firing was the catalyst that caused me to lose face with this company faster than their shitty production, booking and talent did. All leading to the eventual "Fuck this company" at Full Gear 2023.

The heel authority gimmick is automatic, even Dixie pulled it off well. The difference between Vince, Steph/HHH, Dixie, and every other authority heel gimmick even was they were all serious, while The Bucks are comedy goofballs

Think about it. They started AEW. From the beginning fans and the EVPs and Tony all dreamed of the bringing CM Punk out of hiatus. If happens… then Tony and the bucks and omega completely ruin it. Now they have to live with the fact that they failed BRUTALLY in what they consider the most important aspect of their life and identity. They’re probably not handling that well lol. The overcompensation and denial stage is where they are now. Eventually they’ll admit their fault. But how goofy will they act between now and then. That’s the question

I got interested in AEW because of Swerve not because of Will Ostrich.

I wonder when AEW’s fans are going to realize that nothing is going to get better. I’m not talking about AEW’s emotionally-invested apologists who lower their standards to fit the poor booking just to avoid admitting they were wrong all along. I’m talking about their fans. The ones who still believe in the original promise and potential of AEW and want it to be the greatest company it can be. The reason it’ll never get better is because the one and only thing that forces promotions to improve is the one thing that doesn’t matter to them: Money. Tony Khan has been a rich kid all his life. And his daddy has given him an unlimited budget. Even if the company doesn’t make a dollar, it’s a tax write off. This is his pet. The wrestlers (from jobber to main eventer) are paid handsomely regardless. Their paycheck doesn’t depend on whether they draw. They have zero incentive to work harder, stay in shape or do what the fans want.

Re: Darby diving off the ladder and into glass at Revolution. What I’m trippin’ on is all the people excusing the stunt by saying “oh it’s just tempered glass” and “relax, it’s just sugar glass - it’s fake.” It’s like, glass is still glass no matter what word you put in front of it, and that was real blood he was bleeding from real cuts. Like if you think that shit is so cool and entertaining, then why don’t you trying doing it?? 🤦🏾‍♂️

I doubt Okada and Ospreay will be the difference makers AEW needs in order to grow their audience because they only have appeal amongst hardcore wrestling fans and not amongst casuals.

The young bucks realised how they alienated the casual fan base with their stupid antics. They know they are the most hated tag team and now they dont know what to do but to only cash it in on it. Just 2 years ago they went from being one of those guys who uplifted tag team matches to being parasitic leeches sucking the whole company till the last dime. The same thing happened with WCW where Nash and Hall and some other wrestlers sucked WCW completely dry. But atleast they were entertaining. Thats the reason cody left after seeing how these indy guys really dont know the basics of working in a big company and just wrestling as a comedy show with no real storylines. There's a reason even Ring of Honor (even if it was only for a short time) had to hire guys like jim cornette who know what they are doing. At this moment tony just needs to take their evp titles and just have them as wrestlers.
