I always liked that Kat wasn't 'cold and uninterested' towards dating not because that trope of not wanting to be a popular girl or some school power struggle like in most other teen movies; its because something traumatic happened to her. So she put up walls and with those walls protected her sister from the same fate.

I cringe as well at those 'public displays of affection' in movies, and usually really hate it, especially between people who don't know each other well. However, this one never really did secondhand embarrass me, and I think it's because, similar to a comment I saw on a different video, he's not really declaring his love, he's making a public fool of himself. He's showing to her he doesn't mind being seen as silly to let her know he likes her, and is willing to put the work in for that.
It shows in the scene, most of these scenes are very serious and 'romantic', and in this movie he's clearly aware it's kind of silly what he's doing.
But that's just my take, I totally understand when something like that makes you cringe.

Bianca truly deserved someone better than mr Nice Guy, hes as selfish and shallow as she used to be. He likes her because she's pretty and popular, he does a ton a thing to date her, and then threw them in her face when he realised she wasnt really interest, but dude, who forced you?
He PAYS someone to date a girl??? How is he a good guy? hat was his character develepment, really?

I love this analysis! One thing I always thought is that Bianca is actually very smart. Both Stratford sisters are actually whip smart but I think Bianca chose to hide that part of her due to popularity (the trope that you're too cool for school/trying hard is for nerds etc.) It's the second library scene with Cameron when she gets mad he hasn't asked her out. Bianca knows more French (not hard to do compared to Cameron ha) but spits it out like it's nothing. Needing a tutor might not actually be necessary or maybe her father feels her grades aren't high enough because she's too focused on popularity and not school - we'll never know. But for as vapid as she comes off, I always assumed Bianca is just as smart as her sister.

This is a bit off-topic but I really like how Bianca still got to be just as feminine towards the end of the movie.
No hate towards masculine women (all women are cool just the way they are) but I really appreciate how the movie doesn't demonize her hyper-fem style like a lot of other teen shows do.
I think it'd be really cool if more teen movies embraced people being themselves- whether or not the character's style/outward expression matches gender stereotypes.

am i the only one who wasnt embarrassed about patrick singing in public? 😭 i think it was sweet, cute, and funny. it was already established that patrick as character is known as a "bad" boy and there have been different stories about his craziness around the school. so the scene with him singing in public and getting into trouble felt natural to me, esp with his character. like he doesnt mind doing something crazy from time to time

I have always absolutely loved this film. I think I was 14 or 15 when my friend and I rented it from Blockbuster (dating myself with that reference). We were so in love with it that we watched it 6 times in 3 days. Two 14 year old, heterosexual boys.
Its so great to put this movie on every so often and instead of seeing it get dated with time and with newer perspectives, it just gets better or more beloved. However, I can't believe I never noticed Kat wore those pearls to prom, a symbol of her learning from Bianca like Bianca learned from her. Thanks for pointing that out.

I hope the blurring isn’t too distracting! What’s your favourite line from this movie? I’m a big fan of “she kissed me.” “Where?😏” “in the car 💕”
