when i listened to this song i remember the eighties. I guess back then this world was different. The days when kids played together out in the streets safetly are gone. There were a lot of songs that inspired you to be a better person, to think about life. Sadly i feel everything is transforming in its worst form. I Think music is like a small window to scape from reality. The best part of this is that music like this can reunite very especial people around it. Maybe if for some reason it would be nesesary to get the best souls and hearts together, you just need music. I think that who feels something special when listen to this song is special too.

It simply isn't possible to improve upon this song. Sound wise or even performance wise. Patrick.Leonard and Madonna crystallized a moment and therein lies the magic of records. Not even a theatrical staging of Madonna crucified on a disco cross can recreate this sonic moment. I'm just happy that I was there as a 15 year old listening to this single for the very first time on radio in 1986. It was unlike anything I've ever heard before. That WAS the essence of pop music. How a song can capture a moment in time and cement itself into our personal history and our evolution as a culture for the rest of our lives. I'm saddened each time I see Madonna now. An embarrassing plastic and unrecognizable recreation of her past self . Maybe it is true that our most revered stars have to burn out at their brightest.

All these nostalgic comments really make me tear up. This 'At Close Range' extended version is amazing and takes you on a journey. A different a journey that the film conveys, if going by arrangements alone. I was 6 when 'True Blue' came out. "Live To Tell" will always be that album's single that transports me back to my childhood the most – one of the very few songs of ANY '80s release, really. I hear this and I think of a warm, still, summer evening as this plays over the loudspeaker at my small town public swimming pool. I think of it playing nice and loud in my family's 1979 Ford Club Wagon, as we're driving home from a day of shopping in the big city, pitch black except for the occasional street lamp fading in and out within a second, drifting off to sleep in the springy back seat. I get transported back to sneaking downstairs because I'm scared and hate that my parents are away, my babysitter watching MTV, and knowing I'll get in trouble if she notices I'm awake – this exact video is on the glowing screen. I think of my Dad (who was once a music store manager), lying flat on the ground in our living room, reading the sleeve of the 45 single, while it spins on his awesome hi-fi stereo system. I was only a kid but I wish I could go back. At least we have these songs to help bookmark and highlight those precious memories ever so vividly.

It's my mix, with a remix of A!o's (part of OST) and all Live To Tell official studio version. The real name is "LionL At Close Range ExTended Version" Because it was renamed, I never shared the uncompressed file.
