FYI. Doctors administer pain meds based on what the patient says his/her pain level is from 1-10. Race is NOT a factor. I’ve been hospitalized for painful pancreatitis attacks more than 40 times in the past 45 years and have had more than 200 hospital roommates. At least 50 of them were black. I guarantee you that NEVER did any doctor question their pain assertions in any way. Nor did any doctor say that more tests were needed to verify their pain because they are black which is what the crazy Advil commercial implies is commonplace. If a doctor required additional tests based on race then THEY WOULD BE SUED FOR RACIAL DISCRIMINATION. Does anybody actually believe that a doctor would invite a lawsuit in today’s litigious society?

As an ER nurse, trust me when I say that the color of your skin absolutely does NOT influence how we look at a patient who states they are in pain. We DO, however, consider your injury (or lack thereof), your symptoms (if any) and your pharmacy history. Pain is whatever the patient says it is and everyone is different. So we treat everyone the best we can, and hope we make a difference :)

This is pure nonsense. I was trained as an EMT, and we were never taught any difference in pain tolerance or sensitivity between races. Ever. At all.
