Day 5 My pick for today is: The Arc Angels “The Arc Angels” (1992) This band is from Austin Texas. They’re a Blues Supergroup band. Doyle Bramhall II is a guitarist and lead singer. Doyle’s father was a songwriter and Drummer. The name of this band is close to the name of another band. They started this band right after the death of Stevie Ray Vaughan. They’re still preforming at this time. Doyle Bramhall II has played with Eric Clapton and Roger Waters. 1 Nico “The Marble Index” (1968) 2 Electric Prunes “Underground” (1967) 3 Shakey Jake Harris “Good Times” (1960) 4 Detroit Blues Band “Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind” (1995) 5 The Arc Angels “The Arc Angels”(1992)

My Forgotten Favorite album for Day 5 is "Ultimate Spinach" by Ultimate Spinach from 1967. This is the debut album from this Boston Mass. based psychedelic rock band. A fun and trippy listen from beginning to end. And what else would you expect with song titles like "Ego Trip", "Sacrifice of the Moon (in four parts)", "Ballad of the Hip Death Goddess", "Dove in Hawk's Clothing" and "Funny Freak Parade" just to name a few. Definitely required listening for the classic psychedelic music fan! Day 1-Warning In The Sky-Sabattis Day 2-The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack-The Nice Day 3-In the Can-Flash Day 4-As Your Mind Flies By-Rare Bird Day 5-Ultimate Spinach-Ultimate Spinach

27. Stray - Stray (1970) Signed to a contract way back in 1966 as young teenagers on the strength of precocious musical talent rivaling Free, Stray have plenty of experience with mod and psychedelia. On their debut album, they nod to their past with the rocking “Only What You Make It” and the psychedelic pop of “Around The World In Eighty Days.” But it’s the sprawling proto-metal of the 9:23 opener “All In Your Mind” that prompted Pentagram to cite them as an influence. Iron Maiden would later record that song as a B-side. The band is tight and cohesive despite exploring additional genres like prog, jazz fusion and Hawkwind-like space rock. Some of their more driving moments even remind me of some early MC5, but more musically diverse and complex. The closing title-track features some scorching Del Bromham guitar solos resembling Sir Lord Baltimore. 28. Wayne Jarrett - Bubble Up (Showcase Vol. 1) (1982) 29. The Woodentops - Giant (1986) 30. Spirits Of The Dead - Rumours Of A Presence (2013) 31. Hidden Masters - Of This & Other Worlds (2013)

My selection for today is going to be The Blues Project self titled 1972 album. It's not exactly obscure, I knew a lot of people who had it in their collection back then but I do think it's kind of forgotten. They formed in Greenwich Village in New York in 1965. The original lineup consisted of Steve Katz on guitar, harmonica & vocals, Roy Blumenfeld on drums, Andy Kulberg on bass & flute, Al Kooper (not to be confused with Alice Cooper) on guitar & vocals, Danny Kalb on guitar & Tommy Flanders on vocals. By 1972, when the album I chose was released, the lineup had changed considerably with the only original members left being Blumenfeld, Kalb & Tommy Flanders. It's a great slice of blues rock and has held up very nicely over the years.

Pete I'll check these guys out like I've been doing with all your shows this week. While I was looking on day 1 YouTube algorithm suggested Christopher, self titled one off album in 1970. After I got 4 tracks in I just went ahead and bought it on iTunes. I'll make that my 'pick of the day' - Jefferson Airplane meets Cream (the bass player is great). I'm looking forward to see if this shows up on your list this month, as someone with your awesome breadth of music knowledge probably knows them 😀🎶🎸

Day 5: The Sonics- Here Are The Sonics. This is the debut album from this American garage rock & roll proto-punk band from Tacoma. Washington. The album was released in 1965. They came to my hometown several times to play at one of our dance halls. On one of their visits, they brought Paul Revere and The Raiders with them. Might have been the other way around. The Raiders were just starting to hit the big time. The Sonics were very loud, fast paced and raw. Some of their standout hits(here anyway) were, The Witch, Boss Hoss, Psycho and Strychnine.

Today's pick is The Electric Toilet-In The Hands Of Karma. The Electric Toilet released their lone LP, In The Hands Of Karma, in 1970 on Nasco Records. This very rare gem is an extraordinary slice of melodic and heavy psychedelic rock. Peppered with beautiful guitar and organ passages, this album will take you back in time. An excellent LP and one of the many forgotten and unknown albums from this period.

Today’s pick: WHEN A GUITAR PLAYS THE BLUES by ROY BUCHANAN. (1985) Blues guitar master Roy Buchanan handpicked a stellar backup band to do the sessions on this album. That band came from all the corners of the blues world. When it was finished, even though Buchanan had been around for a long time, he said that he felt like this was his first record. He proudly confessed, “It’s simply the best record I’ve ever made.” Roy’s playing makes him one of my favorite blues rock artists right up there with Stevie Ray Vaughan. Buchanan’s guitar has a rich, crisp guitar tone and it’s marvelously produced to boot. Roy gets some outstanding help by two of Chicago’s most powerful vocalists. Gloria Hardiman wraps her gospel based soprano around, “Why Don’t You Want Me?” giving it “A meltdown treatment”. Otis Clay, Chicago’s #1 soul man gives the composition, “A Nickel and a Nail” a hugely powerful effort. If you like the blues and or blues rock then this album is well worth a listen.

Hope all SOT viewers are having a great weekend. Mayday Bank Holiday here in the UK so it'll probably rain at some time. My choice today is the self titled album by BILLY SATILLITE. Now to get one thing clear, there is disappointingly no one in the band actually called Billy Satillite, but what a great name for a rock star. This is basically a mixture of heartland blue collar rock, AOR, pop and a little rnb. My nearest comparison would probably be The Michael Stanley Band or even a little Bob Seger but without horns or even American Fool era John (Cougar) Mellancamp or early Bryan Adams. The songs are mostly short and concise and extremely catchy. Guitars are cranked quite high in certain songs, notably opener Satisfy Me or Rockin' Down The Highway (Not a cover of the Doobies song). Turning Point is another hard rocker within this style. Songs like Last Call with it's earworm chorus and catchy riffs, Do Ya, I Wanna Go Back or Standing With The Kings are all catchy heartland tinged pop rockers, whilst closer The Lonely One cruises more on its bass line and synth stabs. I Wanna Go Back and Bye Bye Baby are both ballads, again with that heartland radio rock feel and some great melodic hooks. One album and they were gone. Vocalist/guitarist Monty Byron formed the not dissimilar sounding New Frontier whilst lead player Danny Chauncey has been Don Barnes guitar partner in. 38 Special for many years now, touring on the heritage circuit almost constantly.

Today will be another 1 and done for me. Some incredible guitar work throughout the 34 minute,8 song release. Found this in the discount bin and gave it a try for 2.00. Pleasantly surprised,it's very good. My May 5th pick is the 1971 / 72 RCA Victor Records, " For Love or Money" by Highway Robbery

Tygers of Pan Tang - Wild Cat (1980) Many prefer the slicked-up production and singing on the follow up, "Spellbound," but I've always preferred the debut. It's dirtier, nastier, more garagey, more NWOBHM...y. The gritty vocals and stripped-down production just roar, "metal". There's a reason they still play "Suzie Smiled," "Euthanasia" and "Slave to Freedom" live.

01 - Anyone's Daughter - Adonis (1980) - German symphonic prog (English lyrics) in the style of Eloy, Genesis and Nektar. 02 - T-Ride - S/T (1992) - US power trio with a 30-minute "funked-up" masterpiece that can only be described as Eddie Van Halen mixed with Extreme and Queen. 03 - Epitaph - Return to Reality (1979) - German based heavy prog band who are still going today, would appeal to fans of Uriah Heep and 70's UK prog. 04 - Michael Garrison - In the Regions of Sunreturn (1979) - Oregon born synthesist with a great debut album in the Berlin School style of electronic music like Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream. 05 - Orange Sky - Upstairs (2005): The debut album by a really good hard rock band from Trinidad and Tobago, lead by two brothers, Nicholas and Nigel Rojas. The music definitely has a reggae-ish tinge to it but also a hard-riffing funkiness that shows influences from Living Colour and Lenny Kravitz. Highlights include "It's Over", "Angels", "Dogs" and a wonderful cover version of Cat Stevens' "Peace Train".
