i struggle with really bad MDD and have always been terrible with keeping my room clean, despite the fact that it DOES help me TREMENDOUSLY when it's cleaned and organized! as of late, however, i've been doing a whole lot better with maintaining tidiness and not going so long between cleaning sessions. here's a few things that helped me out! first, i made my room my safe place. i filled it with things that bring me joy and make me feel safe: art, lights, pillows/blankets, candles, everything like that. i LOVE being in my room. second, i have gone through and donated/gotten rid of SO MUCH STUFF. it's cathartic to let go of what no longer serves you/brings you joy and it's less clutter to have to deal with. this process has taken a long time and i'm still not quite done! i've gone thru clothes, decor, knick-knacks, everything several times since i started this journey. third, learn to love the process of cleaning/organizing. put on your favorite podcast or audiobook or playlist, one that keeps your mind occupied. leave a little bit of room for focus on your work but i love to get lost in a podcast and just kinda let my body take over the cleaning! pay attention to the progress you're making and be proud! be excited! take advantage of any time you find yourself in a good/energetic/productive mood. in a similar fashion, try to keep your clutter to a minimum throughout your day to day life. it's perfectly normal to let your room get messy, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. this is just to make it easier on you - take those dishes to the sink, throw those empty bottles away, put your clothes away, etc. all of this will also serve to make you feel better for longer periods of time and ofc that's not all there is to it but your parents weren't lying when they said keeping your room clean will help you feel better. i know it's hard to get there a lot of times though. i've been there. it's ok, one breath at a time, y'all got this <3 tysm for this video!

Thank you for making people feel less alone about having a messy room. It's human and it's okay. I love you Alicia ❤
