I do think the music video is a very important piece to this song. She’s wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt and it’s just a huge commentary on her childhood stardom as well as breaking away from it, which is why the simplicity of the lyrics makes sense. Her mom was also behind the camera so she was singing it to her the whole time 🩵

I was never near as "wild" as Miley, but I really liked what I heard when I first listened to this song. My "young" years have been cut short by motherhood and if Miley can say she's over being wild, then so can I be a responsible adult. Idk, it's just like she's making it cool to be like "ah, twenty year old me. What a fun person but I don't wanna be that person anymore." Also, she's talking both to the people who liked her better wild and those who didn't and I like how she's putting them into the same category

PLEASE react to Noah Kahan’s album Stick Season! Also the song itself called Stick Season was the first song I heard from him and I was blown away by the lyrics (my favorite line: “it’s half my fault but I just like to play the victim” - relatable lol). He is an incredible songwriter! I think you girls would enjoy! Fellow Noah fans pls like this so they see 😂❤ Love you girls sm!!! Edit, you gotta listen to deluxe!! It has the song dial drunk which is sooo good ahaha

It reminds me of what often happens in a long-term relationship, where one person grows up and changes, and the other person stays the same and keeps longing for that wilder, younger version of their partner. It's like what Miley says in Slide Away, one of my favorite songs: "Move on, we're not seventeen. I'm not who I used to be. You say that everything changed. You're right, we're grown now."
And it also maybe calls back to Jaded? Because in that song, she says of him, "You just jump in your car and head down to the bar 'til you're blurry. Don't know when to stop, so you take it too far." That is very much like the lyric in Used to Be Young: "Turns out open bars lead to broken hearts. And goin' way too far."

I feel like it's relatable on a 'every body goes through something' thing. Like anybody that's gone through their early-mid 20's exploring the world without a clue of where they want to end up. We all make mistakes, we all go down the wrong path every now and then but none of it is wasted, yes it was fun and maybe a little wild but it's all worth it in the end because it makes us who we are now!

I relate to this so much!! I was very loud and “crazy” when I was younger. Life experiences changed me and my personality shifted a lot. I’m a lot more quiet and introverted now. My family and old friends always say how crazy and fun I used to be. It always hurts a little bit bc it makes me feel like I’m not good enough anymore. This song is exactly how I feel and I love it❤️

I would loooove if you guys react to Hozier! He just released his third studio album called 'Unreal Unearth' and it's concept is a mix betweeen his personal life and Dante's Inferno. And of course, it would be a treat if you girls also react to his previous albums!! I think your lyrics breakdowns are so interesting and always so on point! 💓💓💓
