“I feel like the best version of myself when I’m on stage and when I’m singing.” This raison d’etre for musicians everywhere was dispatched by Grace Enger right after she stepped off our DSCVR stage. The truth of her words as she effortlessly waxed nostalgic in her performance of “The Neighborhood” for our rising artists series is readily apparent. Perched on our set’s pedestal with a charcoal Gretsch clenched in hand and bandmates by her side, the Hoboken native seems fully realized. This manifestation of lifelong dreams - she grew up idolizing a range of songwriters from Paul McCartney to Paramore’s Hayley Willians - is cemented in the title of new EP ‘Well Here We Are.’ It’s the kind of thought one might have when accepting a Songwriter’s Hall of Fame scholarship, which is exactly what she did in 2022. With both Berklee School of Music and NYU's Clive Davis school on her resume, Enger is a true student of the craft; accomplishments include penning Sadie Jean’s viral hit “WYD Now?” But as she says: singing and playing are key to her artistic vitality. Following the pandemic, she played the NYU club circuit, honing her craft on stages such as The Bitter End and Berlin. In two years she graduated to opening for Alexander 23 and Maisie Peters. Clearly, ‘Well Here We Are’ is just the start, and we wanted to shine the light on this budding talent, and let her grow into her best self.
