HW News’ Managing Editor Mr. Sujit Nair delves into a conversation with Jayshree Sundar, a seasoned advertising professional and author of the book ‘Don’t Forget 2004’. In late 2003, the Congress Party faced a significant setback in three state elections, losing to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led BJP in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhatisgarh. However, in May 2004, just five months later, the same Congress Party achieved an astounding victory in the General elections, making history. What led to this remarkable turnaround? A pivotal figure in this transformation was Jayshree Sundar and her exceptional team played a crucial role in the Congress Party's historic victory.

Congress is an idea, the idea that brought about the soul of India together, that fought the British, gave us freedom. No matter who leaves the party, less number of MPs at some points - Congress will never fade away. True Indian spirited people, genuine love for the country first, not religion, not caste, not state..will realize their mistake, come back and vote for Congress. This will be their greatest comeback this year.

saw the ad for the first time. Poor people cannot understand these long ads. But sparing matches with Modi And Rahul is well watched by many. You tubers like Abhisar Sharma, 4PM, Ajit Anjum, Mr. Garg , HW , News Laundry , Ashutosh etc have been doing good for INDIA

Very insightful conversation about how advertising should work, and is failing in this election campaign. As pointed out by both Surjit ji and Jayshree ji, there is no messaging, no segmentation, and even the leader brand is focused on negative messaging. Nobody is speaking to the voters! Very sad!

Great conversation surjit ji Getting Jayshee Sunder on the show was great. Not often are people like J Sunder highlighted and their opinion n experience brought before us people. You did a great job in a limited time frame n dispassionately.

Such a good interview - super insightful into all the ads running right now (many of which I have not even seen). The interesting thing I feel is that when I was in the US (and I'm not even a US citizen) I would received emails, text messages, youtube ads, mailers etc. from people running for elections. And here - nothing. Not even a YouTube ad. On seeing the ads - Surijit, your point about giving chocolate to a chocolate lover really stuck with me. And the last question (and answer) were too good.

What a fantastic analysis of the current election ad campaigns. As is rightly pointed out, the game changer is the mobile and social media. While this allows a larger reach, it's also true, as pointed out here, that many ad campaigns are not seen. Viewers have too many options.

Agree with you both, would request our leaders to please talk data n policies so that we would listen, Jayshree times have changed the attention span is minimal, but research n ground realities the essentials of any study or campaigns are ESSENTIALS ...rightly pointed out by you kuch yeh kuch woh nahi chalta. Interesting n informative interview.

A very balanced point of view with the focus point of connectivity with the consumer being key to a successful campaign no matter what medium of communication is used. Jayshree’s point of view is full of insight and incredible experience in advertising. What I appreciated is that she shared her experience as a professional advertising person with very relevant points. I appreciate that as a professional advertising person one’s view point has to be balanced without bias. Thank you for this very interesting discussion.
