I don't know about you, but sometimes I just need to hit pause and recharge my creativity. Taking breaks from creativity can help in avoiding burnout long term, and that's a lesson I've learned the hard way.

Your process videos and humor are why I'm here. I've actually dusted off my music computer and music theory and started working on new tracks and you helped inspire that.

Burn out, boredom, high expectations or self confidence issues? We are our own worst enemies. Youtube is full of this kind of content and there are only a few that I visit regularly . You are one of them. It's competitive and fierce to keep the momentum and interest to attention deficit audiences. There are just so many synths that one can talk about. There are just so many " one man band videos that one can produce. Take a break. Recharge. Youtube will still be here when you get back.

I only recently came across your channel and instantly subscribed. I found your authenticity in your videos engaging along with your content. It’s refreshing to find someone on YouTube that’s not cheesy and promotes clickbaits. Deliver the content you enjoy - I’m sure it will find its audience.

Keeping it phunn, digging deeper into fewer interesting things, illustrating skills/techniques/tricks with actual music making is what I like about your work. I’m here to stay as long as cats included.

Keep the long-term marathon in the forefront. The best of what you have to offer cannot be pushed. If it’s not clicking for me, I try again, later. The tools we have - as I’m sure you have concluded - are not the end-all, but rather, the vehicles we channel our creativity through. And that’s the marathon that has no finish line. - Stay strong, stay patient!

Holy crap you're at 8k subs already, you've earned that break for sure! Congrats!! I have this weird conundrum where I'll hit those creative doldrums, but if I don't touch an instrument for a few days, massive depression kicks in fast 😅 And like you said, you can't force creativity. I've learned a good compromise is to sit with my instruments away from the computer and go back to just playing for hours without "making" anything. Knowing when to stop creating is hard but so important.

Man, similar thing happened to me over this holiday period. Had two weeks to really 'catch up' and work on music projects I am a part of, as I had a break from the day job. First week I really dived in and, after the fifth day, I really needed a break. Ended up spending the second week just relaxing, listening to new music, watching films, going on walks. Has been much needed and, even though I didn't complete everything I set out to, I am now in much better shape to continue. So, I totally understand where you're coming from.

You mentioned in one of your other videos about being a YouTube creator that this is how you connect to the audiences and potential customers. And I have to say, you're doing it very well. As an amateur musician, just listening to someone talk about their creative process and .. THE creative process in general is super interesting, and it takes the pressure off in some areas (you don't HAVE to do this or that), but is also inspiring (makes me want to create more of my own stuff). Thing is, I still haven't gotten around to watching any of your gear / technical videos. I've only watched these so far, and the combination of your insights and the wonderful sonic background makes it time well spent. Hope you achieve your goals!

You are not just a teacher, you are also an artist. Feel free to reproduce your own works in your videos. Don't take YouTube too seriously either: it's just a space for sharing, not a thermometer of your worth. I wish you a year 2023 full of fruitful gestations. 🙂

Hey, you seem to be spot-on with your view. It took me 7 years to reach 25k subs. Part of that was a lot of grinding - I made one video every day for 2 1/2 years - but I wouldn't have done it if I didn't have any fun in that. Well, what helped was a fixed format for a very specific niche mobile game where I now have great templates that save me a lot of time. But that's also a problem: now that that topic is getting old, I have a very hard time introducing other topics (other games, but also synth videos and whatever I'm up to). I'm basically tumbling my old audience over to achieve a new audience that is more open to whatever I do. And boy is this tough: I lost 3000+ subs last year to that process (while gaining 5800, so I'm in the plus). So yes, you're spot on: you're not doing it for the quick fame, but it's a marathon. You're perfectly right about "curating" your audience into a healthy community, even if that makes you niche and not mainstream (hey, who am I kidding, your "Bernie Sanders does synth reviews" have always been niche but I like them as I'm a grumpy old man myself and value your honest opinion). So just keep doing what you're doing or get in touch if a cooperation would help motivating you (I have next week off from my "main work", so I have some time) sysop@mac.com

Congrats to 5k subs increase! My channel is at 3,6k now and I struggle with the same thing about what type of video content I produce. But I have landed on the same decision as you, I produce what I feel like but still trying to make it useful/entertaining for the people who watch. Your dry humor is really cool so don't stop that. Cheers! from a fellow music producer / youtuber.

it's good to process and talk about these situations. Let the tides of life dictate how the creative work will go. I've been making and releasing music nonstop since 2000; and decided to do something substantial with my channel starting 2018. But I'm doing my way, focusing 90% on music making. It's been 30+ albums and 100+ videos. What worked for me during the last four years was instead of spending a few months working on an album without releasing anything, which I did between 2000 and 2017, each track became a closed video project. and then, some time later, I looked back and found several tracks that could make an album. This softened the burden of spending so much time and effort in something (the album) that became just another link that would fade away in seconds. The channel has been slowly growing, but I still have a reluctance to become another talkie channel. I don't think I have anything to add to the community in that respect; also considering that English is a second language and that would mean extra work with the script, rehearsal, pronunciation...all this would take too much of my free time, for virtually nothing. So 2022 has been a year of slowing down, I've just put another album together that will be out soon, and then I'll just sit and let that inspiration come back. if it doesn't, I'm fine with it. I'm always looking forward to the day when I finally don't feel the need to release anything at all anymore.

please keep it like this and don’t turn into a synth review channel…I like it that you talk about the stuff you actually like using for your music, it feels genuine. cheers, Marco

Congrats on all the followers, and admitting it takes as much time as it does to build a channel. I'm struggling with getting listeners as an artists and I'm thinking of reviewing gear to get some sort of hook out there. Keep up the good work, and have a great new year.

So, to put it in just a few words, your interests and style have a lot of intersection with mine, but you are much more experienced with music production than I am. There is more to it than that, but I like to hear from YOU as a person. The art is not separated from the artist, and I like to hear what YOU are up to and what inspires you and why. I first found you from your honest and well reasoned explanation for selling your Iridium which is a synth I had just bought (and still have) at that time. I am interested in hearing from you as you grow as an artist because I am trying to grow as a musician and artist also. God bless you bro. See you next year.

Ever since your video on the Prophet 6 vs Polybrute, I've trusted your judgement on gear more than most other Youtubers. What that means for me is that I feel like you review things you like and you're honest about it, turning into a gear channel that gets paid to toot some manufacturers horn doesn't sound like success to me. Keep doing what you like, it will shine through in your videos, like it already does!
