Pickleball is like a zombie takeover. đ đ đ I heard prior to this that the Wheel Mill was gonna be saved. That's at least what Fudger said when it was talked about on OurBMX. Wheel Mill sent him info saying they're in the works of being able to save the Mill and to support your local bike shop. Wonder what happened from being safe to being a pickleball haven. I'm seriously toying with the idea of building an indoor park around me. I want it to be around for a long future. All around me, there are a bunch of buildings that would be perfect to build up into a kick ass action sports park. Close to all major routes, with tons of food, shopping, staying options ( hotels, motels, air bnb, etc.) , medical ( hospital, walk in med, specialist offices, etc) You know the old location location location. I wanna do it right so it lasts!đ Also lots of street spots available that have not been filmed or snapped. You flatland, got you there to.đđ¤đ Even checking out some old trials I worked on and rode in my early years. Yes we do have an outdoor park as well that bikes, boards, scoots, roller blade etc are all allowed. It's geared towards beginner/intermediate level but still fun for the more advanced. I really feel an indoor skatepark that had offerings for all would prosper quite well here. Thanks for all you do Brant!đđđUp Tha BMX!!!đđ¤Şđ¤đđťđĽđ´ââ ď¸đĽđťđđ¤đ¤Şđ

B-Line Bike Park in Calgary is competing with the kind of places called Vortex YYC. .. B-Line is Only bikes..with the odd Skate Night. Vortex is a Trampoline and Parkour Gym along side a tiny skatepark. Vortex makes WAY more money doing birthday parties in their Indoor Trampoline and Parkour gym ... In Calgary, the sparse population density has created a smaller more "tight knit" community for BMX and skate. Vancouver BC has a MASSIVE cycling community due to population density and Joyride does well... in fact.. almost all my friends i grew up with moved west into British Columbia because of the HUGE BMX Scene and better work opportunities.

I'll be honest, pickleball looks like a fun sport to play and I might be interested in trying it, but I do think that pickleball really is causing action sports some problems. The community where I live has been pushing for a skatepark for 5 or 6 years and while the city has built a skatepark into the 10 year plan, it feels like it's not really making a lot of progress and yet the pickleball facility the city also put in the plan is starting to be built already. I didn't know what the sport was until pickleball people showed up in large numbers to the city council gathering to vote on new city facilities. That was when I found out that it's apparently one of the largest growing sports right now.
Like what you said, I think it's getting more attention because the demographic that plays it are older and more likely to go to city council meetings than the ones that use the skateparks, regardless of the number of people that regularly use the skateparks in the area. I think pickleball is prioritized higher because their facilities are likely going to cost much less to build than a nice concrete skatepark. The issue the city doesn't see though is that skateparks keep kids out of trouble, and we have lots of kids around here causing trouble all the time since they don't have much to do and our current skateparks kind of suck.

Pickleball isn't the issue, it's this little thing called capitalism. Capitalism's thirst for constant increasing profit will never be quenched. If thing B projects more profit than thing A, even if thing A is profitable & popular, thing B will be chosen by the owners of capital nearly every time. Regardless of the impact on the area.
