Donā€™t worry he already said he is releasing that stuff later, it just wasnā€™t what minus was for him anymore. This is based off his loss the pain of that loss and heā€™s already said eyes closed is the most pop like song on the album in an interview with rolling stone. I think we need to trust Ed with the story heā€™s trying to tell us

His mindset changed, recently one of his best mates, Jamal Edwards, died and his wife developed a tumor and he thought he was going to lose her. The way processes emotions like grief is by writing songs and these are the ones he wrote during this period.

I am really hoping this is the return to his acoustic sound the way he has described.

Canā€™t believe he announced Shape of You pt. 2 for the album, especially with features from DJ Khaled and MattyBRaps on it

As of today my fave album is still "+" the "x" for 2nd spot. I have a feeling " - Subtract" will be the new one that will tie or replace "+" for me personally.

Hey man just wanted to say something ,I am biased towards ed coz he's the bloke who inspired me to start writing songs and playing the guitar a bit more seriously. Also i too like ed had a stutter while i was growing up and my sister was kind enough to buy me his 1st album : + and i resonated with a tune called" you need me, i don't need you ", i learned that tune from back to front and it weirdly enough helped me get rid of my stutter. I am also not the best looking guy on this planet and listening to ed's interviews about maintaining a work ethic and practicing every single day really inspired me and i began channeling my deepest thoughts into lyrics which i eventually made into songs . I know the bloke gets alot of flack for changing his sound but i really love it how he loves exploring every single genre. From soulful ballads like : Perfect ,Thinking out loud , Tenerife Sea to Rap tunes like : Take me Back to London, You need me, Take it back, 2step to pop smashes like bad habits, shivers .. the guy is everything i want to be. Plus he is extremely kind, donates to charities, visits hospitals and never lets the hate get to him. Regardless i love the guy for who he is, in my book he will always be a legend and an inspiration and the funny thing is ed still ends all of his shows with "you need me ". Also i know what ed went through in 2022 , his closest friend Jamal Edwards passed away and that must have shook him because he released a tune called F64 as an ode to jamal and its fucking incredible( check it out on sbtv) also the fact that that many of the tunes in subtract cover insecurities , grief and the main theme on "-" is how to live life without things ( a.k.a Subtract things from life), i am not only hopeful but i am sure this will be his best body of work. Thanks for reading. Lots of love xx

I donā€™t think Ed has ever turned off the part of his brain that doesnā€™t think about the audience. Especially since with his most recent records hes done everything he could to make the music appeal to the most amount of people possible, making some incredibly boring music in the process.

The part about being left hanging is so true. My friend and I went to his concert way back in 2011 and loved him. When he came out with Shape of You and all that generic pop, we were so disappointed. Every time he comes out with a new album, it's another let down, but I guess I never stop hoping

Hey Iā€™m in the exact same boat as you. But the main thing I want is for it to still be an acoustic album, Iā€™ve been waiting for this album for years, excited to hear an acoustic album by Ed, Iā€™m so scared itā€™s going to be riddled with electronic beats, where have you heard itā€™s still more or less acoustic? Out of curiosity

I don't think Ed made this album in one week. That part might be exaggerated. Like he might finish the mastering in a week, or in a shorter time frame than his usual. But the songs themselves are most likely from the materials that he has accumulated before.

I love his old stuff but his new pop stuff is still brilliant. Not to mention his acoustic live performances of these new songs are just as great as his older stuff. Iā€™m not sure why or how his new stuff is considered bad just because itā€™s pop. Hellā€¦ Edā€™s been pop since the beginning. The A team, his biggest hit from the start is pop. It was just more acoustic. But you can still compare a lot of his old songs to his newest pop stuff like bad habits and shivers.

Nice job Sergio. I was curious - what is the Ed video where he is sitting by a canal playing and singing - orange paw sticker on acoustic - earlier days - is there a video of that?... TU!
