Just so everyoneās aware, Lorde actually came forward and admitted that āMood Ringā and the music video are satire! In her email news letter, she wrote that itās a commentary on wellness culture, as well as how white women appropriate spiritual practices from minority and indigenous groups. The blond Lorde that we see in the video isnāt actually Lorde, but a character that represents the appropriative white woman, who might in turn capitalize off of spirituality practices that were never hers. But even then, Lorde says she has empathy for people who are a part of wellness culture because itās important to have a sense of peace and understanding, especially in these crazy times we live in. She writes, āWeāre living through wild times, and itās tough to begrudge anyone the methods they employ to feel sane, questionable though they may be.ā
