St Charles Square

I fucked up
Iā€™m not the first to do it
Must forgoe now, your smile
Off the wall, beige
Iā€™m fixtures and fittings
Call me out but call me

ā€˜Cause there is something down here
And itā€™s living under the floorboards
Its grabbed me round the neck with its long and slender claws
Donā€™t leave me here baby donā€™t leave me completely
ā€˜Cause I might not get back to myself at all

St Charles Square
This yearā€™s migration
Basement flat with window bars
Pauliā€™s outside
Spare me the gloaters and the pain
I donā€™t want it anymore

ā€˜Cause there is something down here
And itā€™s living under the floorboards
Itā€™s up and down the clock of the townhall back in time
Oh Iā€™ll ride with you baby, Iā€™ll ride with you forever
But we might not get back to ourselves at all
No Tesco disco
The room is shrinking fast around me
Itā€™s grabbed me by the ankle
And pulled me under
Loneliness Iā€™ve been here before

ā€˜Cause every generation has its gilded poseurs
Weird vibrations in the basement
I donā€™t like this scene
Pauliā€™s ghost come back to haunt me
Think Iā€™m going to ā€¦

Very Bowie scary monster era type vibe, Grahamā€™s Robert Fripp guitar sound only makes it more so, love it.

Those guitars. Graham Coxon's guitar tones are just wonderful. Blur is back. The guitars are heavenly. And Damon is the best Alternative Brit rock vocalist around.

Very different kinda groove for Blur. The guitar sounds Bowie-esque and Iā€™m digging it.

Even though I'm an atheist, I'll just say it. God bless Damon. For being such a steady provider of joy and beautiful music in my life since I was 13, going on 30 years of happiness now. Thank you, sir! Please don't stop. Ever.

This is definitely a grower. I wasn't sure about it at first, but now I'm convinced. The instrumental really elevated the song for me.

Graham Coxon is to Blur, what Johnny Marr was to The Smiths, James Williamson to The Stooges, and Mick Ronson to Bowie. A vital element of their sound and a modest genius. What a fantastic track. Welcome back.

Damon Albarn is the man. Very rarely I've seen an artist who's been in the business for 30 years being able to stay relevant throughout the decades like this guy. Blur, Gorillaz, solo...it doesn't matter. The dude always stayed on the grind. And it paid. Bless him.

This sounds a lot like The Great Escape era, very similar to stereotypes and the charmless man in my opinion. I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH ALREADY!

I feel 13 again with these singles. Narcissist is hard to beat in my view, but this is another good one. Feels like forever waiting for the album to drop through the door!!!

Sounds like Damon has remembered how to write killer choruses for Blur again. This sounds like 90s era.

Fantastic, classic blur sound. Reminds me of Magpie, a b-side from Parklife days. Albarn is as cool as ever, and coxon is just as amazing as ever, love it

I remember following these guys all over the uk in my mid to late teens !!! I was definitely in the superfan camp. Modern life will always remain one of the best British albums ever recorded. So many memories of drinking too much and taking E too often. Going to festivals all over Europe and living up every second of 90s pop culture. I was there when it started and blur will always have that special place inside me. No mobiles , no internet, no instant messaging and folk following every move u made. U enjoyed the experience and you didnā€™t need a picture to show the world. Didnā€™t matter what anyone else knew. I was living in those moments and if I was told I could go back and do it all again I would. Without thought. Glastonbury 98 seeing this lot on main stag full of E. after about 20 of us sat round campfire playing guitars and just soaking it all in. Was a moment in time and now itā€™s gone. But Iā€™ll never forget it. Even if I canā€™t remember half of it.
