Alcohol addiction is very common amongst bariatric patients. You would think with the statistics on this that therapy would be mandatory BEFORE and AFTER bariatric surgery.

I had gastric bypass as well. Lost 130 lbs and gained a shopping addiction and was an alcoholic. I have rectified these issues now, but it's a battle every day.

It is very common for people who have bariatric surgery to turn into heavy drinkers/alcoholics. They replace one addiction with another.

Transfer addiction is a real thing. I hope the show highlights more cases like this

i get why she was so hurt by the confrontation. in her mind, participating in drinking culture is what makes people like her. she's terrified of being alone and ostracized again. her family threatening to abandon her was probably extremely triggering.

My mother had gastric bypass in the early 80's and became a severe alcoholic. She traded eating for drinking and died of Cirrhosis of the liver at 36. Its real

I feel like alcoholism is one of the only addictions where the majority of addicted people will deny they are addicted.

Gastric bypass at 17 is wild. Speaking from experience, at 17, with the right diet and environment, that weight would've fell off.

My mom had gastric bypass and then became an alcoholic. It irreversibly destroyed our once fantastic relationship. The story of getting bypass and becoming an alcoholic is one that seems to be told time and time again. I hope she got sober.

Currently had bypass 3 years ago and lost 110 pounds . I drink about a 10 pack of those mini fireballs today. I went to the doctor two days ago for meds to help me not seize and shake , my whole face and body would go numb. And my hands actually curled up. I throw up stomach bile and spend most of my morning in the bathroom. Itā€™s more than time to stop, and seeing this video . Even tho she couldnā€™t quit was just a sign I think I needed. I still have the urges but I believe and with prayers I can do this. And Iā€™m only 27 years old ā€¦ Iā€™ve also been drinking for 2 & 1/2 years

Iā€™m in 6wks of treatment right now for this, including the same traumas. Great experience so far, 2 weeks sober. Looking forward to being the best version of myself. Long road ahead, but I will make it.

passed my 7 year sobriety milestone last month. to everyone struggling, you can do it, it took me 3 solid attempts before I stayed sober. do it before itā€™s too late & it permanently effects your health, like myself, as it took decades off of my life. not looking for sympathy, itā€™s just a fact I will now die young, and thereā€™s nothing I can do about it. all love from a former addict āļø

As someone born and raised in Orange County all I can say is that area is brutal. I was bullied for the way I looked and because my parents didnā€™t have money. Led me to drinking as well and to binge drink just like she did. The only thing that got me out of that mindset was moving away. Itā€™s that area that creates that mindset.

Parents are responsible for thier kids' health. They model eating, and healthy life habits. Your kid is near 200 lbs at 9, it is your fault. As you get older, that is another story it becomes your responsibility.
