The signs you saw at apartment #2 this is part of the issue. As someone born & raised in LA we can barely afford to live here with our regular jobs b/c the amount of people coming from every where else willing to pay ridiculous amounts when our locals are on strike for needs like lowering rent prices or security

I've lived in LA my whole life, and no, this is not the norm. I rent a perfectly nice two bed/two bath for 2500 (which still may be a lot to most people, but we also have a population of 10mil+, so housing is competitive, unfortunately). A lot of influencers or LA transplants tend to look in the much more expensive neighborhoods or rent luxury apartments that offer a lot of extra amenities (think hotel amenities like a gym, an office center, a doorman, a rooftop pool, etc). The rent varies drastically between each area of LA, as well as what are considered nicer, more central locations. Had a friend living in one area, paying 3500 for a one bedroom, while I lived only 10 minutes away more towards the valley and I only paid 1600 for a one bedroom.

Rent is mainly based on how many bedrooms, bathrooms, other amenities. But don’t forget about the location of the place you’re renting. If it’s fairly close to mall, stores, transportation etc. your rent will be a lot more expensive. If it’s far from those places or quite ways away rent should be at least cheaper compared to others. Choose wisely on what you prioritize.
