Is marijuana bad for your brain? - Anees Bahji

Explore how marijuanaā€™s two main active compounds, THC and CBD, affect your brain and body, and what risk factors to watch out for.

--

In 1970, marijuana was classified as a schedule 1 drug in the United States: the strictest designation possible, meaning it was completely illegal and had no recognized medical uses. Today, marijuanaā€™s therapeutic benefits are widely acknowledged, but a growing recognition for its medical value doesnā€™t answer the question: is recreational marijuana use bad for your brain? Anees Bahji investigates.

I think the important thing to remember is that with weed your personal experience isn't the only experience, I've seen plenty talking about how weed makes them feel so much better while others say it was the worst thing they ever did. Because of how weed affects everyone differently you have to remember that both experiences are just as valid. If your gonna try weed start small and remember that each person is gonna have a different experience.

I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind may clarity replace confusion. And may peace and calmness fill your life.

It helps a ton with being autistic and adhd. My mind goes a million miles an hour and with weed I can actually think for myself without my intrusive thoughts interfering

I tried micro-dosing yesterday for the first time, and I had wonderful experience. I'm someone who suffers from chronic depression, and I was simply happy, not overly ecstatic, but genuinely happy and active with my friends and family. I was even excited to get out of bed this morning.

Psilocybin, LSD, shrooms and DMT are absolutely life changing substances that have so much potential to help people with mental health issues.

Psychedelics saved me from years of uncontrollable depression, anxiety, and illicit pills addiction. Imagine carving heavy chains for over a decade and then all of a sudden that burden is gone. Believe it or not, in a couple of years they'll be all over for treatment of mental health related issues.

Having grown up smoking from 17 years old and being surrounded by smokers in my social group, in schools and work, and meeting other smokers through them, Iā€™ll say Iā€™ve never heard of any of them hallucinating. Paranoia, apathy, addiction, stupidity, failing grades, terrible jobs, low quality of life, but no hallucinations.

I'm not sure if it's as relevant from a neuroscience perspective, but I think the risk of behavioural addiction is quite high. Like, my youngest sister went from smoking it recreationally every now and then, to smoking 3 times a week to cope with PTSD. She became unable to function whilst sober.

This is by far the best explanation of this subject that I have ever come across.
