What was so surprising about Ned Starks death was that Sean Bean was the biggest name at the time in the show. Much of HBOs marketing put his name front and center like it was his vehicle. Then they killed him. It was daring and surprising. You really were left saying where do we go from here? His death opened up all types of possibilities. For those not familiar with the books.

The whole Benioff and Weiss guessing the Jon Snow twist is like ironic fate. The whole reason George was so excited they guessed it is because he likes to have his twists guessed. He carefully sets it up so those who are huge fans have things to guess and speculate, and when the reveal is given it makes it all more gratifying. Them guessing it meant they cared about the series that much. Benioff and Weiss for some reason, despite this being the reason they GOT THIS JOB, seem to think anyone guessing your twists is a measure of bad writing. It's amazing how they don't realize that being able to guess a twist is the sign of not only a good writer, but a dedicated fanbase. You couldn't write a more 'hubris leading to their downfall' trope if you tried.

The Prince that was PromisedâŚbut ultimately meant nothing! Winter came and went in an episode and Daniâs character went crazy in 5 minutes, Arya killing the Night King, Jaimeâs character arc being pointless, Jon Snow turned into an idiot, Cersei killed by rubble and Bran becoming kingâŚthanks D&DâŚyou ruined everything!

Thank you for actually putting so much focus on the assassination of Daenerys, I hear a lot about how dirty Jon was done but I feel like Daenery's gets lumped in with a lot of other bad faith choices in the show and it's underrated how goddamn ruined she was. The way D&D turned a complicated character who thrived through violence and force but longed to be loved and have a happy family into some mad, jealous dictator was insane, esp since that role was already taken up by Cersei and pushing another woman in that direction certainly felt... wrong. In the books, Daenerys reflects a lot on her crueller actions and shows a lot of doubt. Whilst her actions can definitely be ruthless, they're not all entirely signs of madness but the results of someone who is picking an easier but more-destructive way in dealing with things. She steamrolls a lot of her enemies through brute force (with mostly good intentions such as freeing the slaves) which have unintended fallout that she has to deal with. Ultimately, she makes a lot of similar choices to a lot of the other characters in the show, like Jon executing Oliver, but with higher stakes and therefore more violence. But by season 8, she's held to a completely different standard; all her actions are perceived as being 'mad', despite evidence that the 'flip of a coin Targ madness' thing was more of a propaganda angle since very few Targs actually went mad and a large portion simply seemed more suicidal and depressed than batshit crazy. The way Jon was constantly praised for being an inevitable 'better ruler' despite spending most his time being a wildling or a ranger (which have their share of responsibilities sure) and even getting murdered from his bad choices, over Daenerys who had experience ruling a kingdom and had a loyal force to ensure her rule was so wrong. And in the end, it was all justified bc Dany was simply the mad woman with a big flamethrower whilst Jon was portrayed as this tragic 'should-be' king who will go down as a legend is just aaaaagh i'm angry all over again and it's been YEARS.

*I made an error in the video. A song of Ice and Fire sold 12 million copies prior to 2011, not 90. I apologize for this mistake
