I think a big reason that smaller European guards haven't succeeded is that they tend to play like more traditional point guards and lack the scoring punch required from heavy ball-handling guards in the modern NBA. When Campazzo played on Denver teams guarding him on pick and rolls would go under the screen and dare him to shoot pull-up jumpshots everytime, which he was always very hesitant to do. Teosic was a better three point shooter from what I remember but that's definitely why Campazzo didn't last.
Edit: I'm aware Vezenkov is a wing player I'm just referring to the other European players who didn't pan out mentioned in the video

I don't think Vezenkov is failing; he's adjusting. The NBA is a faster game than the Euroleague and Sasha has commented on this several times. Also, his teammates are still learning how to utilize his talents because he can definitely shoot. However, he's a bit slow-footed and not a great defender, but once he learns Mike Brown's defensive scheme, you can tell he has a high BB IQ on the floor and he'll be fine on the defensive end. Likewise, there are many times teammates don't see him cutting to the cup or miss those simple plays off a screen that you showed here. They don't know what he is doing and you can see him explaining this to Sabonis or Fox. I think this year is a grace period for him to learn and build chemistry with his new teammates, and then I expect him to explode next year and be ready for a bigger role IMO. He's not failing.....he's acclimating and adjusting because coming to a new country, culture, team, and a new game is not easy for anyone. He'll be a great player by next year!

The Kings are stacked at the 4, which leaves very limited minutes for Vezenkov to prove his talents.
It’s sad because Vezenkov can shoot the lights out and be a great off ball scorer because he excels at moving without the ball and cutting to the basket. Hopefully he either gets more minutes moving forward or treated to a team who will use him enough

I don’t understand WHY WE DONT GIVE HIM MINUTES. The super close in season tournament game we won because of him and his defense. WHY DO WE PLAY BARNES OVER HIM?? Sure he’s not as athletic, but he’s smart, can shoot, and has good defense. His defense in that warriors in season tournament 4th quarter was so good

That foul draw at 2:42 is insane 🤣. I’m so glad they got rid of that in the NB

Last year Sasha had a def. rating fs 109.5, playing for the 2nd best defense in the EL. He also averaged 70% in the paint on 5.6 attempts, which is just unreal, playing against tough, tight EL defences. I guess he is somehow doesn't quite fit in the individualistic NBA game? I don't know, I don't care, I just want him back

I would love to have him on the wolves. Perfect fit to space the floor, cut, low usage and also does the little things like boxing out. I've heard that his defense and slow feet are his biggest flaws but from what I've seen, he actually tries on defense and is quite physical. However I seriously doubt the kings are gonna trade such a valuable player on a pretty good deal.

He would be a great fit in the Nuggets system
