This song makes me think of when I moved back with my mom when I admitted I was struggling with substances. I went from a full straight edge kid to a full blown user bc of trauma in my life.
The summer I heard this song it changed everything. Itās imprinted in my life. I always see my mom having me work in her giant garden to push thru my sobriety and even tho it was hard I look back and remember the sun thru the trees and the sounds of summer coming from the woods around her home. I knew it was gonna be ok and this song made me feel hopeful. Itās been almost a half a decade now and my life is so different and much better. I have a place, a car, an amazing job and an amazing fiancĆ©e. I never thought Iād ever get out of that black hole I was in but here I am. Thank you Grimes. Thank you for helping me pull thru those hard days with your music. ā¤ā¤ā¤

This is the hardest Grimes song to listen to and makes me cry much more than any other. In the verses it sounds like she is talking about someone from the past or, at the very least times in the past. Anyways, I think of my husband who passed away in 2019. Then, of course, she says, "I want to peer over the edge and see in death if we are always the same." š¢
The chorus to me is about being positive as much as you can about everything, taking your time and climbing the "mountains" of life. I say that because the song is fairly upbeat and not sad-sounding.
This is not my favorite Grimes' song, though lyrically, it might mean more to me than all her other songs.

Lyrics
When we were young, we used to get so close to it
And you were scared and you were beautiful
I wanna peer over the edge and see in death
If we are always the same
Oh, I fear that no life will ever be like this again
Cause your love kept me alive and it made me insane (oh, yeah)
There were moments when it seemed okay (I go back alone)
Where do you go? Oh, where do you stay? (I go back alone)
There was a time when the music would play (Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Oh, baby, every morning there are mountains to climb
Taking all my time
Oh, when I get up, this is what I see
Welcome to reality
Oh, baby, every morning there are mountains to climb
Taking all my time
Oh, when I get up, this is what I see
Welcome to reality
When we were young, we used to get so close to it
And you were scared and you were beautiful
I wanna peer over the edge and see in death
If we are always the same (oh, yeah)
There were moments when it seemed okay (But I go back alone)
Where do you go? Oh, where do you stay? (I go back alone)
Oh, baby, every morning there are mountains to climb
Taking all my time
Oh, when I get up, this is what I see
Welcome to reality
Oh, baby, every morning there are mountains to climb
Taking all my time
Oh, when I get up, this is what I see
Welcome to reality
(To reality)
Oh, baby, every
(To reality)
Oh, baby, every
Oh, baby, every
(Give me a sign)
Oh, baby, every
(Give me a sign)
Oh, baby, every
Oh, baby, every
Oh, baby, every
Oh, baby, every
Oh, baby, every

This song has the same vibe as waking up at 5am but it's for something you are excited to do.
