Maybe it would also help to ask your teachers for the goals of this excersize? - like okay, you said do whatever but what should i be thinking about while putting a bunch of sticks together? What is the excersize supposed to teach me? With other assignments you could also think about how you could push and modify them to make them more interesesting for yourself without breaching the rules your professor gave you. And while it might sound a bit dumb but also, eg. with the day and night paintig you could either just bite the bullet and go somewhere cool and paint that, or even in your room try and find some cool objects to place in the scene or some diff ligh sources to make the shadows more interesting etc. :) Something i have learned after many years of college/univercity is that one shouldn't think about assignments and courses like in school, where you just do it bc you have to and to get a good grade, but also ALWAYS think about what you wanna do after and where you wanna go and then think how a certain course could potentially help with that goal, even or maybe especially if its a course you dont like as much, because the probability that you'll sit yourself down to learn that anytime in the future is basically 0% hahaha
