The Reevo hubless bicycle is absolutely insane, but what is going on inside it? We took it to a bike shop and took it apart to find out!

Here's the original Reevo Video on Our Main Channel    • This Rare Futuristic eBike is a Total...

This is a great reminder of how wonderfully elegant a normal bicycle is

"You put an engineer on a really dumb task. They're really smart, they're gonna figure out how to do your dumb thing."
True for so many things.

YES!! Thanks for doing this teardown! Always wanted to see what was inside one of these. The complicated gear drive is wild!

This is simultaneously the most over-engineered and under-engineered bicycle ever made.

"It's only a 1% loss in efficiency .... per gear"
Absolutely incredible. I'm not a fanatic, I don't mind a losing a *little* for style etc. But a drive train of twelve gears? really?
Anyway thanks so much for taking this thing apart, I've been so curious about this.. entity of a 'bike'.

the amount of machining and engineering that went into this is nothing short of astounding. It reminds me of Juicero's insanely overengineered colostomy bag squeezer.

I may need to steal that line...

THIS is what YouTube should be for. No old media outlet would have covered the Reevo with such depth and authenticity as you did.

That little blue 9g server at 10:44 is what we use for really small, light rc planes. The gears in them get stripped all the time and they’re basically a disposable item. Cost about $3. Having one operate the anti theft in a place so hard to replace is insane

As a professional bicycle designer, thank you for this teardown. I remember the Kick Starter and thinking 'oh boy... this won't end well'.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sacrificing a debunk piece of tech, just so we, the normal viewers, could see what was inside! This mini series was incredibly interesting & captivating to watch, thank you very much again my dude!

The amount of drivetrain loss ... Holy crap lol. Gear resistance, let alone the gear differentials, all xombined it better have permanent pedal assist lol.

9:10 Just a comment on the machined gear on the cast alloy rear wheel rim and it being the main wear component. My dear old dad was a watchmaker. He started his apprenticeship in the mid 50s, serviced spy cameras while doing national service in the British army, and went on to run a successful business repairing watches and clocks until the 80s.
His favourite dinner time question to guests was, "if you have a large brass (soft) gear being driven by a small hard steel pinion gear, which one wears out first?"
Surprisingly, it's the small hard steel pinion gear. The reason is, microscopic silica dust (harder than steel)in the air, gets imbedded in the softer gear, and works like a diamond grinding disc , wearing away the steel pinion gear, which didn't appear to be too difficult to remove from that ridiculous bike. There may have been some actual research or engineering knowledge in this particular case, or maybe not...

Those little wheels around the inside of the rim are the same wheels that we used to build 3D printer slides and stuff because they roll on an aluminum extrusion really well

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you having actual captions (and GOOD captions). It makes it easier to clarify what someone just said when there's music, it makes it easier to share with friends who are Deaf/HoH or aren't great at English, and honestly it's just my preference with video media. It means a lot to me, and even more to others, so thank you!

4:36 On the end of the crank axle you can actually see the "incredibly clever pedal assist" which is just 12 magnets with a sensor for it in the casing probably. It's called a cadence sensor and is used mostly on cheap chinese bikes and diy ones. It only senses the rotation speed of the cranks and even with a proper freewheel feels like a death trap.
