Waited all day to comment on this but basically how lucky are we, to live in a time where The Oh Hellos are releasing music? This made my day, in fact my year. It’s not even just a song about Christmas. I feel like the sentiment in these lyrics can be applied to any holiday, any nostalgic feeling. I love this band.

[LYRICS]
December of '04, we got a Yuletide show
The miracle of manna, an inch of snow
It didn't melt all day
We used a trash can for a sleigh
And we still talk about it
Here at decades older, I am less impressed
Seems the blessing only comes with bitterness
Bi-annually, at least, the pipes and asphalt will freeze
And we'll still talk about it
If I wish for anything this year
It would be a bigger house
With walls spaced far enough apart
To keep my loved ones out the dark
When the power grid goes out
'Cause I keep you in my heart
Yeah, I keep you even when we are apart
And I'd keep you out of the dark
If I only could
All that you believe in can survive this one
A fairy only keeps her wings if you cheer them on
Well, it's hard to find a star
In all this godforsaken dark
So I'll believe in you
Sure, the days are colder and the nights are long
But don't you worry, I don't think the magic's gone
We could light a fire
We could lift our voices higher
We can believe in you
If I wish for anything this year
It would be a crystal ball
Or the winning numbers on the wall
Wouldn't want a dime or dollar
Only power to change anything at all
'Cause I keep you in my heart
I keep you even when we are apart
I'd keep you out of the dark
If I only could
Yeah, I keep you in my heart
I keep you even when we're worlds apart
I will keep you out of the dark

I can't listen to this song without crying. I grew up in the PNW and snow was also very rare, and i remember the overwhelming excitement as i watched it fall. This song brings me back to those moments, but also forces me to remember that it isn't really like that anymore, both because of climate change and the broadening of my own horizons. A bittersweet hopefulness fills this song. Things will never be the same, and perhaps they will get much worse. And we will live and sing and remain.
I'm so thankful for music like this. I don't think I've ever had a song hit so unexpectedly close to home.

I've been a listener of your music since 2014 and you guys are still, to this day, my favorite band of all time. I think I've already played this song a good 10 times over this morning on Spotify and I cannot get enough of it. The lyrics hit hard as someone whose holiday family gatherings are no longer the same as they used to be after many major life changes happened, where I seek out now the tiniest things to remind myself this time of year still has its magic. And this, by far, is one of those magic wishes so sung about. A song from my most beloved band to remind me that there's always some way out of the dark and hope to hold onto, as your music has always reminded me. Have a happy holidays, all of you, and thank you for being part of that light. 💖

I listened to the song right after it released at 12AM and I’ve had it on repeat since (even as I’m typing rn), your music is SO beautiful there are not words to describe it. Your lyrics feel larger than life itself, and the music accompanying it only makes them bolder. I am not joking or bluffing when I say winter is one of my favourite seasons because of your music. Boreas, and now this song feeding into it. I feel like for the last two years I look at each snowfall with new eyes, and I can’t help but admire the breathtaking beauty of the life we live. The Oh Hellos have fundamentally changed the way I engage the natural world around me, and I can’t help but thank them for it
