On the episode, Melissa opens up about the intense anxiety and self-doubt she experienced through taking on such a well known iconic character as 'Carmen' in the new movie opposite Paul Mescal.

Melissa also discusses questioning whether the role was for her after deciding, as a Mexican actress, she didn’t want to take on stereotypical latino roles that were focused around ‘drug-cartels’ or ‘illegal aliens’, but how she eventually decided the ‘magical’ depiction of Mexico and the story within Carmen could lift ‘my people up,’ and help to educate others about the immigrant experience.

Plus Melissa powerfully talks about the ongoing discrimination that Latino actors face in Hollywood through the restrictions placed around the auditioning process and how she wants to continue to fight to be considered for roles that haven’t been created specifically for Latino actors.
