Lyrics:

I was lying in my bed
A creature void of form
Been so afraid of everything
I need a chance to be reborn
I never wanted anything
That someone had to give
I donā€™t live here anymore

When I think about the old days, babe
Youā€™re always on my mind
I know it ainā€™t like I remember
I guess my memory runs wild
Like when we went to see Bob Dylan
We danced to ā€œDesolation Rowā€
But I donā€™t live here anymore
And I got no place to go

Beating like a heart
Iā€™m gonna walk through every doorway
I canā€™t stop
I need some time
I need control
I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
Iā€™m gonna say everything that there is to say
Although youā€™ve taken everything I need away
Iā€™m gonna make it to the place I need to go
Weā€™re all just walkinā€™ through this darkness on our own

Now time surrounds me like an ocean
My memories like waves
Is life just dying in slow motion?
Iā€™m getting stronger everyday
I never took our love for granted
You never left me wanting more
But youā€™d never recognize me, babe
I donā€™t live here anymore

Beating like a heart
Iā€™m gonna walk through every doorway
I canā€™t stop
I need some time
I need control
I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
Iā€™m gonna say everything I need to say
Although youā€™ve taken everything I need away
Iā€™m gonna take it to the place I need to go
Weā€™re all just walkinā€™ through this darkness on our own

I seriously thought this was a song from the late 1980's that I'd somehow missed. I cannot stop listening to it. Everything about this song is pure poetry. I haven't heard anything this good in years.

This song gives me the chills. It reminds me of an 80's summer when I was a child. Thank God music like this never dies or gets old.

In all seriousness: I believe this song will age like wine and critics will be talking about it for years to come. It's a new classic, through and through.

I am battling cancer and lost a woman I had a 3 1/2 year relationship with because I got cancer. I can relate to the song in so many ways. A masterpiece. I had never heard The War on Drugs music before hearing this song but Iā€™m now a fan for whatever time I have left.

I love the backing vocals on this track. It's an excellent song all round but the backing vocals take it to the next level.

This feels instantly nostalgic, like an old radio song I never found the title of until now.

The female backup singers really help make this song. Rather than just "frill," they add an orchestral punch all their own, and so they end up being worth listening to all in themselves. Excellent complement.

The morning after my mother passed away from cancer, my dad and I had to go to the funeral home to get things squared away for the funeral. As we came into the parking lot, this song came on the radio. We sat and listened to the whole thing before going inside. This song helps me to feel connected with everyone who experiences loss and that feeling of being lost, in whatever form it takes. A truly beautiful song.

I love their music so much, their album "lost in the dream" takes me back to my uni days, my music producer friend had it on vinyl, we used to sit around playing card games having a few beers and spliffs playing music, its one of those moments in life you don't realize are one of the best moments you will ever have, I remember the set up of living room perfectly to this day, I wanna throw them some love while I'm here, try searching Lonely Gimmick - Stay At Home to Sleep In, it's there music and it gives me strong The War On Drugs vibes, they did it all themselves on their laptop and its honestly so impressive
