@Sinister Minister - Nice video :) I posit 'mutual concurrence' between the universe and God. Whilst we could speak of the contingency of the universe, it's not the way to view things. They go together, hand in glove, so contingency should be replaced with reciprocity and symbiosis.

@Sinister Minister - Be prepared for people calling you a pantheist ;) Equating the universe with God will draw such comments. I see myself as a panentheist and support your eternalist idea. It is my contention that the universe cannot not be. Where would it go? As Manly P Hall, the brilliant mystic, once said, 'all attempts to summarise what happened before The Big Bang are embarrassing' - IMHO, there was no Big Bang. It is the next metaphor for a break away from the singularity of Pure Love.

And yes, the multiverse idea is for those that can't grasp scale and it's as simple as that. To be kind to it, it can serve as a metaphor for multiple human beings as separate 'islands' ... 'we have just one world but we live in different ones' (Brothers in Arms, Dire Straits) :)
