Melanie please donā€™t go down the functional medicine route! I spent so much time and money on ā€œholisticā€ therapies only to get worse and internalize so much self blame for something I was trying so hard to heal. I recently wrote a 10 page research paper for university on how dangerous functional medicine can really be. Be careful! People love giving medical advice no matter their experience or expertise so it can be overwhelming. Good sources and people with similar and not just adjacent experiences are very important. Much love to you, your health journey, and your family šŸ’š

Hey Melanie, I ended up in the hospital in 2011 and 2019 for very similar symptoms. It wasnā€™t until I met with a rheumatologist that I found out anything ā€œdefiniteā€! Based on both experiences he diagnosed me with kikuchi fujimoto disease. They donā€™t understand how it happens other than ā€œstressā€. I also have extremely low vitamin D and Iā€™ve taken a supplement for years now. A couple other autoimmune illnesses that are similar are lupus and stills disease. Talk to a rheumatologist asap! I also have an innate fear being diagnosed with MS, since my mom has it and it has passed down from her grandmother. Anyway, I hope you feel so much better, the process of dealing with chronic pain and unknown illness is overwhelming, but so many ppl have been there before you! Youā€™ve got this.

Hi! I remember one of your videos a while ago mentioning that you enjoy watching videos of people who are in the next stage of life to you instead of people younger. You are this person for me! I am 23 and would love videos on processed food, or videos on habits you wished you had formed when younger. Thank you for being this person for meā¤ļø

Yes to the ultra processed food video!! And I would immediately subscribe to a substack on parenting. No pressure to start any projects for us but endless support for anything you choose to do. Thank you so much for your vulnerability and honesty with this. As someone with chronic illness and chronic pain, whoā€™s also dealing with the whole ā€œwell thatā€™s not a symptom you should be experiencingā€ rather than *actual answers*, I 100% relate and sympathize so, so heavily with your story. Sending well wishes for peace and healing in the future. ā¤ļø You mentioned several of the tips I have found most helpful in coping with my diagnoses both mentally and emotionally (EG eating ā€œsimplerā€ by cutting processed foods and sugar, as well as allowing myself to need care from my loved ones), but one non-western approach Iā€™ll throw in here in case no one else has already mentioned itā€”ā€”turmeric. The capsules with a meal are so helpful in reducing my unexplained pain, and literally any time I eat Indian food I feel dramatically better than I did before. ā€œWarmingā€ soups with turmeric, curries, roast veg, etcā€¦. All so helpful. Black pepper and ginger help me with absorbing the nutrients in the turmeric, as well. I cannot recommend highly enough.

You're so far away! :( I'm so sorry you had this scare! I haven't finished watching but I'm at the part where you started your antibiotics and I'm just feeling so sorry for you because I can't imagine dealing with all this while also being a parent. You are a superstar!

So happy youre feeling better (or on your way to better). I can completely relate to reaching a breaking point with your health & chronic illness. Ive always admired your mindset & feel like ive learned so much from you over the years - so substack recommendation: parenting (like u mentioned) and/or health? also maybe a look into your creative process? writing, video ideas, the video essays you have thought of doing, etc. Sending you so much light and healing energy āœØšŸ’š

I wish you all the best and hope you'll never have to deal with something as scary and painful! šŸ’– And thank you for sharing your story. I'm also over 30 already and have certain concerns about my mental and physical health. I've already decluttered my social media in the beginning of the year. But it's for sure way past time to properly take care of my body. Your video gave me a little bit of a wake up call and inspired to move in the healthier direction. Let's do our best together!

Melanie you're gonna make me cry!!! šŸ˜ā¤ā¤ā¤ I experienced very similar nerve pain after having an unfortunate combination of a concussion and a flu soon after. Your videos gave me so much comfort during this time. I'm so sorry you experienced this awful neuropathy!!! These tips I think will make a huge help for me, I hope that you continue to share your journey navigating this nerve pain and your health. šŸ’ššŸ’ššŸ’š And for context it has been a few months since the onset, it flares up with stress but has mostly gone away thanks to physiotherapy and lifestyle changes to reduce inflammation.

I had a terrifying experience with Covid myself a few weeks ago. Iā€™m 32 with zero prior health issues. The entire time I was sick my vitals and labs were completely normal yet I felt like I was dying. I almost passed out on multiple occasions just trying to walk to the restroom. The smallest movement caused me to immediately be out of breath and my entire body would shake. I would break out in full body sweats soaking through my clothes but never had a temperature. My lungs were clear but I felt like I couldnā€™t breathe. My partner (bless him) had to essentially be a full time caretaker for me for 2 weeks straight as all I could manage to do was sleep. It is terrifying just all of a sudden not being able to function when you were fine before. It definitely lit a fire under me as well to make major changes in my daily life because I never want to feel like that again. Thank you for always being so raw and vulnerable with us. You help so many people šŸ’›

I experienced a similar type of health scare post covid two years ago šŸ˜“It was the worst time of my life so I understand your struggle and commend you for managing it with two young children! The worst part for me was not being able to eat anything as I love food so much! I'm doing lots better nowadays but still struggle with fatigue sometimes. I never quite figured out what it was as it can be difficult for doctors to be able to fully answer these things sometimes! However, something that has really helped me keep the mind-body stress under control is nervous system regulation - it's been a game changer and it sounds like that it's been helping you too! I appreciate my health more than ever nowadays - health is wealth! Sending you healing vibes šŸ’›xxx

Thanks Mel! I've been really burnt out and have been sacrificing my health and happiness lately. I kept thinking "this is normal". This video was the kick up the bum I needed to start putting myself first and stop casting aside my concerns.

So much love and sympathy for youā¤ I remember feeling like I was slowly dying a year ago and telling my husband but immediately after saying "sorry that's silly" byt I WAS actually dying but just used to not listening to myself. A few days later I was hospitalized and a week after that told I was out of danger. I also do way too much and now have a condition where stress has to be avoided as much as possible. It made me value myself and my health more.
