It's a classic David versus Goliath struggle: Multi-billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has built a Gigafactory in Germany to produce electric cars. They are supposed to be environmentally friendly, but Tesla's factory is located in a water conservation area and a nearby wooded area is to be cleared for an upcoming expansion. Environmentalists are taking to the barricades. They have occupied the forest and erected tree houses to prevent the factory from expanding. How are they trying to stop Elon Musk? And will they succeed?

I'm 7 Minutes in and you guys haven't mentioned the coal mine that uses 170 times more water than the Tesla plant

They should protest infront of Mercedez, BMW factories too. Should tell them to produce only busses and trams.

The area is designated for industry for nearly 25 years. BMW actually wanted to build a factory there in 2004 and in 2001 the people of Grünheide were in favour of this plant. Nobody was protesting then. The "Bebauungsplan" is more than 20 years old, so there was plenty of time to protest. And this plantation is not a forrest!

If Tesla is going to make cars for the European market I would think it’s probably better for the environment if they are made in Europe rather than in China and then shipped to Europe.

The trees were planted for paper production. They are going to be cut down.

How does DW not see the obvious difference between a man made plantation forest and a natural forest.

This is totalling misleading. Anyone who knows anything about this situation knows that it’s not a forest, it’s a plantation. These trees were planted to be cut down. You have a bunch of students who just want to feel like they’re doing something but have no idea what they’re doing. They should not only be listened to, but they should be forcibly removed from the trees.

They’re angry because they can’t think of anything better as an alternative to oil.

From where Roman gets his money ? Others need to work to get by, camping in the woods for months is not feasible for some mortals..

Anti-capitalist or anti-American but obviously not eco-activists; that term is about as believable as the product label "Environmentally Friendly".

Tesla should have chosen Poland instead of Germany in the first place.

Why do you keep calling a tree plantation, a forest? I rather have Tesla increase biodiversity elsewhere like they’ve done in the past and will do again.

It is a plantation of single species, not a forest. DW show some numbers like total plantation area vs current plant area and future expansion, or a 15 year water level chart to see the plant's impact. Anyone can have an opinion.

That Forest looks a lot like a monoculture to me.

Notice the use of propane instead of using an electric stove

Last time I checked BMW produces all their cars in space and don't require any land. Idk why can't Tesla do that. Especially elon can just build a factory in space with his rockets. I will also join the protest to protect the plantation trees.
